Lady Pirate Tennis Outlasts CAI 3-2

Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis hosted Christian Academy Tuesday evening and improved their record to 6-3 by defeating the Lady Warriors in non-conference play.  Samantha Matthews defeated Meghan Hunt 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 in #1 singles; Sidney Goedeker fell to Maddie Brown 6-4, 6-2 in #2 singles; and Maddie Nuxoll defeated Lindsey Bilkey 6-0, 6-0.  Christian Academy won #1 doubles (Hannah Bussey and Lizze Hill) while Brenley Berger and Erin Kimbrell won #2 doubles.  Charlestown is back in action Monday at Austin in MSC play.

Lady Pirates Top Eastern 4-1

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis team improved their record to 5-3 and 4-3 in MSC when traveling to Eastern Monday and topping the Musketeers 4-1 in conference play. Other than Eastern stealing #1 singles play against Samantha Matthews  3-6, 6-1, 6-0; the Lady Pirates won #2 singles play as Sidney Goedeker defeated Jenna Chastain 7-6 (2), 6-2; and Maddie Nuxoll defeated Carley England 6-0, 6-1.  Charlestown’s Hannah Bussey & Lizzie Hill won by default in #1 doubles, and Brenley Berger & Erin Kimbrell defeated Eastern’s Morgan Farris/Rachel Applegate (6-0, 6-0) to take #2 doubles.  Charlestown is next in action Tuesday, April 25th at home versus CAI.

Lady Pirate Tennis Blanks Clarksville

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis team hosted MSC rival Clarksville Wednesday evening, improving their record (3-1 & 2-1 MSC) by dispatching the Generals 5-0.  Samantha Matthews won #1 singles 6-3, 6-1, Sidney Goedeker won #2 singles 6-3, 6-0, and Maddie Nuxoll won #3 singles 6-0, 6-0.  Lady Pirates were just as dominate in doubles play as Hannah Bussey and Lizzie Hill won #1 doubles to a 6-0, 6-0 final while Brenley Berger and Erin Kimbrell won by default.  The Lady Pirates are back in action Monday, hosting another MSC rival in Salem.

Hill Clutch in Win over South Central

On Friday evening, the Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis team (1-0, 1-0 MSC) traveled to South Central High School to begin non-conference play. The Lady Pirates were missing a veteran starter on Friday, but received huge contributions from freshman Lizzie Hill to secure the 3-2 win. In one singles, Alexis Knear defeated Samantha Matthews 3-6, 3-6. In two singles, Maddie Nuxoll dominated Brooklyn Woertz from South Central 6-1, 6-0. In a huge matchup at three singles, freshman Lizzie Hill came up big with the 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker win over Maddy Brashear. At one doubles, Hannah Bussey and Brenley Berger defeated Rachel Smith and Grace Riley 6-3, 6-1. In a close match at two doubles, Grace Sellers and Erin Kimbrell dropped a close match to Kelsey Dunn and Jenna Baelz 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). The Lady Pirates battled to secure their second win of the season in as many games. Charlestown (2-0, 1-0 MSC) returns to conference play tonight as they travel to Scottsburg. All Events Cancelled – Thursday

Due to the rain yesterday and cold temperatures, all Pirate & Lady Pirate events have been cancelled for this evening. This includes JV Baseball at Lanesville, Softball at Corydon, Track & Field at Salem and Girls Tennis at North Harrison. The Charlestown High School Athletic Department has announced the following makeup dates for the postponed events:

Lady Pirate Softball at Corydon Central will now be played on Tuesday, April 18th starting at 5:00pm.

Lady Pirate Tennis at North Harrison will now be played on Friday, April 21st starting at 4:30pm.

Makeup dates for all other cancelled events have not been determined as of now.

Lady Pirates Top Brownstown in Opener

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis team got their season kicked off right Tuesday evening, hosting Mid-Southern Conference Arch-Rival Brownstown; and taking the 3-2 victory.  Samantha Matthews defeated Laken Reynolds 6-4, 6-3 in #1 singles, Sidney Goedeker dominated Claudia Sibrel 6-0, 6-0 in #2 singles, and Maddie Nuxoll also dominated her opponent, Bridget Hall 6-1, 6-0 to finish the Lady Pirate sweep of singles play.  In #1 doubles, Hannah Bussey and Lizzy Hill fell in a hard fought battle to Rachel Atkins and Olivia Hockman 5-7, 7-5 & 6-4; while Carly Braun and Riley Roberts narrowly defeated Brenley Berger and Erin Kimbrell 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.  The Lady Pirates return to action Thursday hosting North Harrison at 4:30 pm.

Spring Sports Try-Out Announcement

Anyone interested in trying out for any Charlestown High School Spring Sport must have a completed physical on file with the school Athletic Department.

Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball tryouts will be held on Monday, March 6th; beginning at 5:30 pm at the CHS Softball complex.  Anyone interested needs to report with softball attire, cleats and tennis shoes.  Questions can be directed to Head Coach John Smith at (502)548-3509 or charlestownsoftball@gmail.com.

Any CHS boy interested in playing Charlestown Pirate Golf during the upcoming season should attend a meeting in Coach Tolliver’s room (A224) on Monday, March 6th, during IMPACT.  Please contact Coach Tolliver for more information if needed in advance of Monday’s meeting.

Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis will begin Monday, March 13th at 3:15 pm (to 5:00 pm), at the Charlestown High School Tennis Courts.  Questions regarding Lady Pirate Tennis can be directed to Head Coach Scott Matthews at smatthew@gccschools.com.

Pirate Baseball Tryouts will be held on Monday, March 13th from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the CHS Baseball facility.  Anyone interested in trying out for the high school baseball team needs to come prepared for inside and/or outside workout on Monday the 13th.  Gray baseball pants, black t-shirt, hat and cleats are needed while outside; while tennis shoes or turf shoes are needed inside as cleats are not allowed inside the hitting facility.  Questions should be directed to Head Coach Ricky Romans at 502-641-2883.
