Lady Pirate Doubles Play Spoils Musketeer Visit

The Lady Pirate Tennis team hosted MSC foe Eastern Wednesday evening at the Charlestown High School.  The Lady Pirate Doubles teams swept the visitors to help secure the 3-2 conference victory.  Megan Crawford won #2 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Ashley Albertson; while Suzannah Fielding and Haley Bussey won #1 doubles and Hannah Bussey and Maddie Nuxoll won #2 doubles.  Charlestown improves to 7-4 (5-3 MSC) on the season, with sectionals quickly approaching.  The Lady Pirates will finish conference play Thursday at Corydon; and plan to make up a couple of rain out contests prior to upcoming sectional play.

Lady Pirate Tennis Blanks Salem 5-0

Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis continued their winning ways Monday evening, improving their record to 5-1 & 4-1 MSC with a 5-0 thrashing of host Salem.  Samantha Matthews won #1 singles 6-2, 7-6 (9-7); Megan Crawford won #2 singles 6-0, 6-0; Sidney Goedeker won #3 singles 6-4, 6-2; while Suzannah Fielding & Haley Bussey won #1 doubles 6-4, 6-2; and Hannah Bussey & Maddie Nuxoll won #2 doubles 6-4, 6-2.  JV Doubles was also victorius as Brenley Berger and Grace Sellers won 8-3.  The Lady Pirates will host MSC rival Scottsburg Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm.

Lady Pirate Tennis Tops South Central 4-1

Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis stepped out of Mid-Southern Conference play Thursday evening hosting the Rebels of South Central High School.  The Lady Pirates (4-1 & 3-1 MSC) swept doubles play and won two of three singles matches.  Samantha Matthews fell in #1 singles 7-5, 1-6 & 2-6; Megan Crawford won in #2 singles 6-0 & 6-2; Sidney Goedeker won in #3 singles 6-3 & 6-2.  Suzannah Fielding and Haley Bussey won the #1 doubles match 3-6, 6-2, & 6-4; and Hannah Bussey and Maddie Nuxoll won in #2 doubles 2-6, 6-0 & 6-2.  Charlestown is back in action at Salem Monday in MSC play.

Lady Pirate Tennis Rolls at Clarksville 4-1

The Lady Pirate Tennis team continues to build momentum this season as it improved its record Wednesday evening to 3-1 overall and in MSC play with a 4-1 win at Clarksville.  After dropped #1 singles, Lady Pirate Megan Crawford won #2 singles 6-0, 6-1.  Hannah Bussey and Suzannah Fielding took the #1 doubles match, winning 6-1, 6-2 over their Lady General counterparts.  Clarksville had to forfeit the #3 singles and #2 doubles for lack of a team.  The Lady Pirates will host South Central Thrusday at 5:00 pm in non-conference play and will travel to MSC foe Salem Monday.

Lady Pirate Tennis Defeats Silver Creek 3-2

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis team improved their record to 2-1 Tuesday evening by defeating arch-rival Silver Creek 3-2 on the road.  Charlestown was garnered their three wins in #2 singles, #3 singles and #2 doubles.  Ashley Less (SC) defeated Samantha Matthews (CT) 6-1, 7-5 in #1 singles.  Megan Crawford (CT) defeated Meghan Voight (SC) 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in #2 singles.  Sidney Goedeker (CT) defeated Alexis Boone (SC) 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 in #3 singles.  Elaine Slavik & Morgan Bobo (SC) defeated Suzannah Fielding & Haley Bussey (CT) 6-2, 6-1 in #1 doubles; and Hannah Bussey & Maddie Nuxoll (CT) defeated Cholie Yost & Abbie Walker (SC) 7-5, 6-4 in #2 doubles.  “Great win for the Lady Pirates!, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Scott Matthews.  Charlestown is back in action Wednesday evening at MSC rival Clarksville beginning at 5:30 pm.

Lady Pirates Open Season Defeating Brownstown

The Lady Pirate Tennis team opened their 2016 season on the road Tuesday evening, and with a quality win over arch rival Brownstown.  Charlestown (1-0) won the conference game 3-2.  Megan Crawford lost 6-2, 2-6, 3-6 in #1 singles; Samantha Matthews won 6-3, 6-4 in #2 singles; and Sidney Goedeker won 7-6, 7-4 in #3 singles.  Suzannah Fielding and Brenley Berger lost 2-6, 4-6 in #1 doubles; and Hannah Bussey and Maddie Nuxoll won 6-0, 6-3 in #2 doubles.  “Good way to start the season, and I’m proud of the girls.  One thing we plan to work on is being more aggressive”, commented Head Coach Scott Matthews.  Lady Pirate Tennis will next host North Harrison on Thursday.

Lady Pirate Tennis Honored by Indiana Coaches

The 2015 Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis team has been honored by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association (IHSTeCA), with two awards.  The IHSTeCA named Lady Pirate Senior Sarai Soto to their Academic All-State Team; and named the entire Lady Pirate Tennis team the designation of Team Academic All-State.  Congratulations to the 2015 Lady Pirate Tennis team, not only getting it done on the court; but also in the classroom at an excelled level.  For more information about the Lady Pirate Tennis program, go to www.PiratePride.BLUE/GirlsTennis.
