Pirate Knoebel Accepts Bridges All-Star Invite

IMG_7082Charlestown Pirate Basketball Senior Jordan Knoebel has received and accepted an invitation to help the Battle of the Bridges Indiana All Star team, under Head Coach Keith Phillips, repeat last year’s victory over the Kentucky All Stars on Saturday, August 6th.  The 19th Annual BATTLE OF THE BRIDGES All-Star Classic Game, is held in conjunction with the Battle of the Bridges Tournament, which showcases All Star Boys and Girls Teams, 3rd to 12th Grade, from Kentucky and Indiana.  The Battle of the Bridges tournament will feature over 400 boy and girl basketball standouts; and will be the place to be for local basketball interests.  The Battle of the Bridges weekend of events will be held at the Mid-America Sports Center in Louisville; complete event information is available at www.teamhoops.com under the Battle of the Bridges heading.

Knoebel, a 5’11” incoming Pirate Senior, who averaged over eight points per game last season for Charlestown, scoring over 200 points while shooting 43% from the field; is also a team offensive and defensive specialist, racking up 61 assists and 45 steals for the Pirates.  For more information about Jordan’s high school Pirate Stats and Pirate Basketball, go to www.PiratePride.BLUE/BoysBasketball and click on the Team Stats link.

Knoebel will join several Charlestown Pirates during the Battle of the Bridges event, including current Lady Pirate Basketball Head Coach Michael Prichard and former Lady Pirate Head Coach Tony Hall just to name two.

Lady Pirate Volleyball Shows Intensity in Preseason

Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball participated in the annual preseason Summer Scorcher Tournament hosted by North Harrison High School.  The tournament features twelve area high school volleyball teams, including Charlestown, Christian Academy, Corydon, Jasper, Jeffersonville, Meade County, North Harrison, Paoli, Perry Central, Scottsburg, Silver Creek, and West Washington.  The Lady Pirates finished morning pool play with two wins and one loss; specifically 25-22, 25-13 over Perry Central, 25-22, 20-25 and 7-3 over West Washington, and 12-25, 15-25 to Silver Creek.  The second place teams of all three pools faced off in re-pool play; as the Lady Pirates surprised defending Class A State Champions from Christian Academy 27-25, 15-25 & 7-3, before defeating Paoli 25-21, and 25-22 to finish the day 4-1 and winning the second place pool.

“Overall, we had a good tournament.  I’m proud of the way girls didn’t give up when we were several points down.  They fought back to regain leads.  I also liked the intensity we showed to win three game matches”, commented Charlestown Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.

The Lady Pirates will scrimmage Lanesville on the road August 10th then open their 2016 season hosting MSC rival Corydon on August 16th in the CHS Sports Arena.

PreSeason Football Announcements

Due to on-going field reconditioning efforts at Charlestown High School’s Dutch Reis Field, the Annual Blue-White Scrimmage has been CANCELED this season and the annual August 12th scrimmage with Floyd Central has been moved to Floyd Central High School with a 6:00 pm start time.  Tentatively, and also as a result of field reconditioning, the Monday, August 22nd JV football game versus Madison is being moved to Madison HS.  For more information about Pirate Football, go to www.PiratePride.BLUE/Football.

CHS Sports Physical Opportunity Announced

Charlestown High School will be hosting pre-participation sports physicals on Tuesday, July 26th at 6:00 pm.  Athletes from Charlestown High School as well as Charlestown Middle School are welcome.  The cost per athlete will be $25, and will be performed by KORT Sports Trainers.  CLICK HERE to Download and Print the new IHSAA Sports Physical evaluation form, which has sections that will need to be completed by parents and athletes in advance of arriving on July 26th.  Parents and/or legal guardians must be present with their son or daughter athlete and should enter Charlestown HS near the main office upon arrival before being directed to the gym for the physicals.

CHS Cheer Summer Camp Highlights & News

2016CHScheerCampThe Charlestown High School Cheer team traveled to the UCA Cheer camp held on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington this past week.  Three Pirate seniors tried out and were selected as UCA All-American Cheerleaders, they were Bradley Lafoon, Taylor Glover and Jenna Daniel.  Additionally, Madisyn Bowser, Taylor and Bradley were three of fifteen to received a special invitation to try out to be a member of the UCA Staff, 400 cheerleaders attended the camp.  The team earned a second place honor in the extreme routine competition; CHS also got a superior trophy for their stunt sequence; and received gold ribbons during both nights of evaluations.  One of the CHS Stunt teams, consisting of Taylor Glover, Paige Cooksey, Jenna Daniel, and Sophia Adams; participated in a stunt off with over 25 other groups and finished in the top five.  Congratulations to the Charlestown HS Cheer for completing another successful summer camp.

Lady Pirate Volleyball Announces Summer Camp

The Charlestown High School Lady Pirate Volleyball Program would like to invite girls entering grades 3rd-9th to attend a summer volleyball camp.  The camp will run from Thursday, July 14th through Saturday, July 16th.  Girls entering grades 3rd-5th should attend from 9:30-11:00 am each day; and girls entering grades 6th-9th should attend from 12:00-2:00 pm each day.  The camp will be held in the Auxiliary Gymnasium at Charlestown High School at a cost of $30 for girls entering grades 3rd-5th and $35 for girls entering grades 6th-9th.  Preregistered camp participants will be guaranteed a camp t-shirt.  The purpose of the camp is to teach the fundamentals of volleyball; including passing, setting, hitting and serving, as well as, the basics of team play.
