CHS Track & Field Competes in MSC Meet

The Charlestown HS Boys Track and Field team waited an extra day to get to make the trip to Corydon Central to compete in the MSC championship meet.  Taking a team of 10, the Pirates were able to come up with a 4th place finish. Many great efforts and some PR’s set again has us excited about Sectional next week at Jeffersonville.  Notable finishes last night include:

2nd place: 4 x100 relay team of Brenden Lawler, Mitch Wurtsmith, Andrew Shaw & Trey Woodward; 4 x 400 relay team of Woodard, Amado Gomez, Steven Delany, Shaw (PR of 3:42); 100 M Dash – Woodward (PR of 11.4); 110 HH – Delaney; 300 Hurdles- Delaney (PR of 42.29);

3rd place: 300 Hurdles – Wurtsmith (PR of 42.74); 200 M Dash- Woodward; Long Jump- Lawler; Shot Put – Luke Finchum.

4th place: High Jump – Shaw

Teh Girsl Track and Field team finished seventh this week at the MSC Championship meet; with a notable finish by DeAsia King in the discus event.  King improved her personal record from 81′ to 98′ 3/4.

CHS Track Continue to be Competitive, Finish Well at NH

Charlestown High School Track and Field traveled to North Harrison Friday evening and participated in their annual eleven team invitational.  The Pirate Boys finished 4th out of 11 teams and the Pirate girls (team of only eleven) finished 6th out of 10.  Notable Charlestown finishes at the invitational include:
1st place finishes: Jenna Daniel-  Girls Long Jump; Boys 4 x100 Relay team of Brenden Lawler, Mitch Wurtsmith, Andrew Shaw, Trey Woodward.
2nd place finishes: Daniel- Girls Shot Put; Steven Delaney- Boys 110 HH & 300 Hurdles; Lawler – Boys Long Jump; and 4 x 400 boys relay team of Shaw, Woodward, Delaney & Amado Gomez.
3rd place finishes: Tayte Motsinger- Girls De100 Hurdles; Woodward- Boys 100 & 200M; Wurtsmith – Boys 110 HH; Luke Finchum – Boys Shot Put; 4th place finishes: Shaw – Boys 400M; 5th place finishes: DeAsia King – Girls Discus; Ilanyah Keltner – Girls 100M; Syd Gieseking – Boys Long Jump; Shaw – Boys High Jump;
Points and ribbons were awarded to top 8 finishes in each event.  Great efforts by all our athletes and lots of PR’s (personal records) improved on Friday night.  “We look forward to what they can accomplish in the next few weeks with conference and sectional meets coming up”, commented Assistant Coach David Daniel.

Charlestown Wins the Pirate Relays Overall Trophy

pIRATERELAYS2016Charlestown High School Boys and Girls Track teams competed in the annual Pirate Relays Wednesday night, hosted at Charlestown High School.  The Pirate boys and girls teams both placed 3rd respectively; but overall their combined scores were good enough to earn the Event Boys and Girls Combined Team Champions Trophy; beating Corydon, Crawford Co, Austin, North Harrison and Scottsburg.

Lady Pirate finishes of note included:  1st place: Long Jump – Molly Brauneker / Ilanya Keltner; and 800M Relay combo of Molly Brauneker, Cheyanne, Ilanya Ketner, & Tayte Motsinger.  2nd place: High Jump – Tayte Motsinger / Cheyanne Hawk; Shuttle Hurdles – Tayte Motsinger / Carrley Shreve; the 1600M Relay combination of Carrley Shreve, Gabi Gagnon, Molly Brauneker, & Alexis Gurr; and the Sprint Medley combo of Ilanya Ketner, Carrley Shreve, Gabi Gagnon, and Alexis Gurr.

Pirate finishes of note included:  1st place:  Long Jump, Shuttle Hurdle Relay, and the 1600M Relay combination.  2nd place: High Jump, 400M & 800M relays.

“I am so proud of the girls.  We had 9 girls competing, several girls had 4 events.  Adia Wells, Alex Chester, and Cheyanne Hawk, Molly Brauneker, Ilanya Ketner had personal bests in their field events.  I cannot remember the last time the track teams won the Combined Team Champion Trophy”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll.

Track & Field Finish Runner Ups at Pioneer Four Way

The Charlestown High School Girls and Boys Track and Field team participated in the Providence four way meet Tuesday evening in Clarksville; both Pirate teams finished second.  The Lady Pirates scored 52 points (30 points behind Henryville), and ahead of host Providence (48) and Rock Creek (34).  Individual Lady Pirate Results of note included Jenna Daniel’s 1st in the long jump, 1st in shot put, and 3rd in 4×100 relay; Tayte Motsinger finished 1st in 100 Hurdles, 2nd in the high jump, and 3rd in the 300 Hurdles; Molly Bruaneker finished 3rd in 4×100 and 4×400 relays, and 4th in the 200M run; Gabi Gagnon posted a 3rd place finish in the 800M run, the 4×400 relay, and the 1600M run; DeAsia King finished 1st place in the shot put, and 3rd in the discus events; Adia Wells finished 3rd in the shot put, and 5th discus events; Ilanya Ketner finished 3rd in the long jump, and 4×100 relay, and 4th in the 100M; Carrley Shreve finished 3rd in the 100 Hurdles; and Alexia Gurr finished 3rd in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, as well as 4th in the 1600M run, and 5th in the 800M run.  “Several girls had personal bests in their events.  With only 11 girls on the team, I am pleased with results individually and as a team. The girls are improving each meet”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll.

The Pirate boys team finish 2nd to host Providence and ahead of Henryville and Rock Creek;  Individual Pirate Results of note included 1st place finishers Andrew Shaw (high jump, & 400 dash), and Steven Delaney (110 & 300 hurdles).  Pirate 2nd place finishers Steven Delaney (High jump), Trey Woodward (100 & 200 dash), Mitch Wurtsmith (110 hurdles), Luke Finchum (shot put), and the 4X800 relay team of Morrow, Parker, Applegate, Bower, and the 4X100 relay team of Lawler, Gieseking, Gomez, Woodward.  Seth Parker recorded a 3rd place finish in the 800 meter run.  “It was a good showing against some very good competition. It was so nice to have a meet in beautiful weather. I look for our guys to keep working hard and keep improving, so that we can be ready for conference and sectional”, commented Pirate Head Coach Jerry Doyle.  The teams travel to New Albany on Thursday for the New Albany Relays.

Pirate Track Making Early Season Waves

Some of the hottest athletes in Charlestown right now are running track and competing in field events as Pirates and Lady Pirates at Charlestown High School; not only are their numbers up, but so their results.  Charlestown Track & Field started the season off on the 5th by soundly defeating the boys and girls of New Washington, Christian Academy and Rock Creek.  The Lady Pirates won 100 and 300 hurdle events (Tatye Motsinger), the discus event (DeAsia King), the long jump (Jenna Daniel), and the 4×400 (Molly Brauneker, Alexis Gurr, Tatye Motsinger, and Gabi Gagnon).  The Pirates won the 110 hurdles event (Mitch Wurtsmith), 300 hurdles event (Steven Delaney), the 100 and 300 dash events (Trey Woodward), the shot put event (Luke Finchum), the long jump event (Brenden Lawler), and the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.

Two days later, Pirate and Lady Pirate Track traveled to Clarksville for a three way meet including Salem.  The Lady Pirates won 100 dash (Ilayah Keltner), the 300 hurdle and long jump events (Tatye Motsinger), the discus event (DeAsia King), the long jump (Jenna Daniel), and the 1×400 relay team.  The Pirates won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles events (Steven Delaney), the 100 and 300 dash events (Trey Woodward), the 400 run event (Andrew Shaw), the shot put event (Luke Finchum), the long jump event (Brenden Lawler), and the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.  Charlestown handily defeated both Salem and Clarksville.

When Charlestown showed up last Friday for Corydon’s annual Stargazer event, the Pirates finished a surprising third and the Lady Pirates seventh out of eleven team fields.  Tatye Motsinger finished second in the 300 hurdle event, and Jenna Daniel won the Long Jump and placed second in the shot put.  Pirate Steven Delaney finished second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles, Brendan Lawler finished second in the long jump and the 4×400 relay team finished third.

Six Pirates Advance to Track & Field Regional Meet

The Charlestown Pirate Track & Field team made the short trip to Jeffersonville High School Thursday evening for Sectional Meet competition of the 2015 State Tournament.  When all was said and done, six Pirates in five different events qualified to move on to next Thursday’s Boys Regional Track & Field meet at Bloomington North High School.  Pirate Senior Tyler Olsen finished second in the 100 Meter Dash Finals with a time of 11.92; Pirate Senior TJ Jackson finished third in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 52.64; Pirate Senior Eli Daniel tied for third in the High Jump, with a leap of 5′-10″; and Pirate Senior Tristan Chester finished third in the Discus Throw, with a throw of 138′ – 8″.

Additionally, the Pirate 4×100 Meter Relay team of Eli Daniel, TJ Jackson, Tyler Olsen, Trey Woodward, and Andrew Shaw finished second in the finals in a time of 45.50 seconds.  The Pirate 4×100 Relay team finished less than a second out of Jeffersonville’s first place team.

All of the before mentioned Pirates will compete in Thursday’s Regional Meet at Bloomington North High School.  Final Sectional team scores:  1) Jeffersonville 159; 2) Silver Creek 123; 3) Madison 74; 4) Scottsburg 66; 5) Charlestown 59; 6) Henryville 34; 7) Austin 28; 8) Rock Creek Academy 24; 9) Switzerland County 20; 10) Southwestern (Hanover) 16; 11) New Washington 11; and 12) Shawe Memorial 9.
