Track & Field Finish Runner Ups at Pioneer Four Way

The Charlestown High School Girls and Boys Track and Field team participated in the Providence four way meet Tuesday evening in Clarksville; both Pirate teams finished second.  The Lady Pirates scored 52 points (30 points behind Henryville), and ahead of host Providence (48) and Rock Creek (34).  Individual Lady Pirate Results of note included Jenna Daniel’s 1st in the long jump, 1st in shot put, and 3rd in 4×100 relay; Tayte Motsinger finished 1st in 100 Hurdles, 2nd in the high jump, and 3rd in the 300 Hurdles; Molly Bruaneker finished 3rd in 4×100 and 4×400 relays, and 4th in the 200M run; Gabi Gagnon posted a 3rd place finish in the 800M run, the 4×400 relay, and the 1600M run; DeAsia King finished 1st place in the shot put, and 3rd in the discus events; Adia Wells finished 3rd in the shot put, and 5th discus events; Ilanya Ketner finished 3rd in the long jump, and 4×100 relay, and 4th in the 100M; Carrley Shreve finished 3rd in the 100 Hurdles; and Alexia Gurr finished 3rd in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, as well as 4th in the 1600M run, and 5th in the 800M run.  “Several girls had personal bests in their events.  With only 11 girls on the team, I am pleased with results individually and as a team. The girls are improving each meet”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll.

The Pirate boys team finish 2nd to host Providence and ahead of Henryville and Rock Creek;  Individual Pirate Results of note included 1st place finishers Andrew Shaw (high jump, & 400 dash), and Steven Delaney (110 & 300 hurdles).  Pirate 2nd place finishers Steven Delaney (High jump), Trey Woodward (100 & 200 dash), Mitch Wurtsmith (110 hurdles), Luke Finchum (shot put), and the 4X800 relay team of Morrow, Parker, Applegate, Bower, and the 4X100 relay team of Lawler, Gieseking, Gomez, Woodward.  Seth Parker recorded a 3rd place finish in the 800 meter run.  “It was a good showing against some very good competition. It was so nice to have a meet in beautiful weather. I look for our guys to keep working hard and keep improving, so that we can be ready for conference and sectional”, commented Pirate Head Coach Jerry Doyle.  The teams travel to New Albany on Thursday for the New Albany Relays.
