Pirate Track Making Early Season Waves

Some of the hottest athletes in Charlestown right now are running track and competing in field events as Pirates and Lady Pirates at Charlestown High School; not only are their numbers up, but so their results.  Charlestown Track & Field started the season off on the 5th by soundly defeating the boys and girls of New Washington, Christian Academy and Rock Creek.  The Lady Pirates won 100 and 300 hurdle events (Tatye Motsinger), the discus event (DeAsia King), the long jump (Jenna Daniel), and the 4×400 (Molly Brauneker, Alexis Gurr, Tatye Motsinger, and Gabi Gagnon).  The Pirates won the 110 hurdles event (Mitch Wurtsmith), 300 hurdles event (Steven Delaney), the 100 and 300 dash events (Trey Woodward), the shot put event (Luke Finchum), the long jump event (Brenden Lawler), and the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.

Two days later, Pirate and Lady Pirate Track traveled to Clarksville for a three way meet including Salem.  The Lady Pirates won 100 dash (Ilayah Keltner), the 300 hurdle and long jump events (Tatye Motsinger), the discus event (DeAsia King), the long jump (Jenna Daniel), and the 1×400 relay team.  The Pirates won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles events (Steven Delaney), the 100 and 300 dash events (Trey Woodward), the 400 run event (Andrew Shaw), the shot put event (Luke Finchum), the long jump event (Brenden Lawler), and the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.  Charlestown handily defeated both Salem and Clarksville.

When Charlestown showed up last Friday for Corydon’s annual Stargazer event, the Pirates finished a surprising third and the Lady Pirates seventh out of eleven team fields.  Tatye Motsinger finished second in the 300 hurdle event, and Jenna Daniel won the Long Jump and placed second in the shot put.  Pirate Steven Delaney finished second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles, Brendan Lawler finished second in the long jump and the 4×400 relay team finished third.
