Pirates Finish Fourth at New Albany Invite

The Pirate Tennis team travel to and participated in the annual New Albany Invitational meet this past Saturday.  The Pirates as a team finished 4th overall, due to the following outstanding results:  Singles #1; Miles Matthews runner up 2-1 on weekend, Lost in Final.  Singles #2; Trey Woodward placed third, 2-1 on weekend with a good win over Silver Creek.  Singles #3; Jacob Doherty placed 4th, 2-1 on weekend.  #1 Doubles; Josh Copeland/Steven Delaney finished 5th with a good win over Scottsburg team who previously beat them.  #2 Doubles; Chase Wray/Aaron Meyer finished 7th place defeating Eastern Pekin.

Pirate Tennis Sweeps New Washington

The Charlestown Pirate Tennis team (3-2 overall; 0-2 MSC) traveled up Highway 62 on Thursday night to face off with Clark County rival New Washington. The Pirates started hot and finished strong as they swept New Washington 5-0. All positions played well. At one singles, Miles Matthews won 6-1, 6-1. At two singles, Trey Woodward won 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. At three singles, Jacob Doherty won 6-2, 6-1. In doubles play, Steven Delaney & Josh Copeland won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 and Chase Wray & Aaron Meyer won 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. The Pirates advance to 3-2 on the season, and will be playing in the New Albany Invitational this weekend, starting tomorrow night.

Pirate Tennis Drop MSC Match to Scottsburg

The Charlestown Pirate Tennis team (2-2 overall; 0-2 MSC) stepped back into Mid-Southern Conference play on Wednesday night as they hosted Scottsburg. Charlestown played well, but were swept by the Warriors. At one singles, Miles Matthews was defeated 5-7, 5-7. At two singles, Trey Woodward was defeated 3-6, 2-6. At three singles, Jacob Doherty was defeated 2-6, 1-6. In doubles action, Steven Delaney & Josh Copeland were defeated 7-5, 2-6, 5-7, and Chase Wray/Aaron Meyer were defeated 1-6, 0-6. The Pirates move to .500 at 2-2 as they get ready for New Washington on Thursday night. “#1 singles and #1 doubles played very good matches,” commented Head Coach Scott Matthews. Charlestown (2-2 overall) will play New Washington Thursday night, before playing in the New Albany Invitational this weekend, beginning Friday night.

Pirate Tennis Sweeps South Central

On Monday night, the Charlestown Pirate Tennis team (2-1 overall; 0-1 MSC) faced off against familiar tennis foe South Central at Charlestown High School. The Pirates got off to a great start, and finished strong as they advanced to the 5-0 sweep of South Central. At one singles, Miles Matthews defeated Austin Schoen 6-0, 6-0. At two singles, Trey Woodward defeated Daniel Fischer 6-3, 6-0. At three singles, Jacob Doherty defeated Camden Reed 6-0, 6-1. In doubles play, Josh Copeland/Steven Delaney defeated Brady Kuchenbroad/Chase Schoen 6-2, 6-1 & Aaron Meyer/Chase Wray defeated Will Weber/Jacob Daugherty 6-0, 6-0. Not only did the Varsity do well, but JV picked up a couple of individual wins. In JV doubles action, Isaac Bates/Jase Smith & Gavin Bowyer/Trent Reed both won their matchups against South Central. The Pirates advance to 2-1 on the season. Coach Matthews, who was extremely impressed with the team performance on Monday night, looks forward to Wednesday night, as they step back into conference play when they host Scottsburg. Pirate Tennis Shuts Out CAI in Opener

The Charlestown High School Pirate Tennis team (1-0) opened their season Tuesday hosting Christian Academy of Indiana at CHS.  The Pirates swept the Warriors 5 games to nil behind solid all around play.  Miles Matthews won #1 singles 6-0, 6-2; Trey Woodward won #2 singles 6-0, 6-1; and Jacob Doherty won #3 singles 6-3, 6-2.  In doubles play, Pirates Steven Delaney and Josh Copeland won #1’s 6-0, 6-0 and Chase Wray and Aaron Meyer won #2’s 6-0, 6-3.  In exhibition play, Isaac Bates won 8-0 for Charlestown; who opens Mid-Southern Conference play today hosting Silver Creek at 5:00 pm.  Come out and support the Pirates.

CHS Fall Sports Practice / Try-outs Begin MONDAY

Reminder that all athletes must have a physical on file while also passing 70% of their classes in order to be eligible for athletic participation at Charlestown High School.  All Transfer students must fill out a Transfer form in the athletic office.

Pirate Tennis Advances to Thursday’s Sectional Final

The Charlestown Pirate Tennis team opened Sectional play Wednesday at Silver Creek against the Henryville Hornets.  Charlestown advances to Thursday’s 4:30 pm Sectional Final versus the host Silver Creek Dragons; after defeating Henryville 3-2.  Pirate results versus the Hornets are as follows:  Miles Matthews won #1 singles, 6-0, 6-1; Tyler Massie fell to Henryville 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in #2 singles; and Trey Woodward wins #3 singles 6-3, 6-1.  Teams split doubles play as Pirates Steven Delaney and Josh Copeland win #1 doubles, 6-2, 6-7, 7-4; while Henryville defeats Zach Whitten and Austin Smith in #2 doubles 6-4, 6-6 (8-6).  The win improved Charlestown’s 2015 record to 13-3 overall.

Charlestown will try to avenge the August 20th 4-1 regular season setback to Silver Creek Thursday at 4:30 pm; the Dragons dispatched Borden 5-0 in the second Sectional match held Wednesday.  Best of luck Pirates versus the Dragons.
