Pirate Tennis Handles Southwestern, 5-0

The Charlestown Pirate Tennis team made quick work of Southwestern Monday, defeating the home standing rebels 5-0.  The win improved the Pirates’ record to 12-3 (6-2 MSC) as they prepare for their final conference match today (Tuesday) hosting Salem.  Pirate winners at Southwestern Monday included:  Miles Matthews in #1 singles, Tyler Massie in #2 singles, and Trey Woodward won in #3 singles play.  Charlestown’s Josh Copeland and Steven Delaney were victorious in #1 doubles while Pirates Austin Smith and Zack Whitten won #2 doubles at Southwestern.

Charlestown will host Salem Tuesday (Tonight) at 5:00 pm and will begin Sectional play Wednesday versus Henryville, in the Silver Creek Sectional at 4:30 pm.

Pirate Tennis Throttles Cougars

Charlestown Pirate Tennis hosted a swept the visiting North Harrison Cougars in conference play Thursday evening 5-0.  The improve their record to 11-3 and 6-2 in MSC play with one conference match with versus Salem Tuesday at home.  Miles Matthews won #1 singles 6-1, 6-0; Tyler Massie won #2 singles 6-2, 6-2; Trey Woodward won #3 singles 6-2, 6-1; Alec Sipes and Jacob Doherty won #1 doubles 6-0, 7-5; and Zach Whitten and Austin Smith won #2 double 6-4, 6-0.  The Pirates will play at Southwestern Monday and host Salem Tuesday in a very important MSC contest before sectional play.

Pirate Tennis Stays Hot, Tops Henryville 3-2

The Charlestown Pirate Tennis team traveled to Henryville Wednesday evening for an out of conference match, handing the host Hornets just their third loss of the season.  The Pirates improved their record to 10-3 (5-2 MSC), now winners of eight out of their last nine dual matches.  Pirate winners at Henryville included Miles Matthews in #1 singles, Tyler Massie in #3 singles, and Zack Whitten and Austin Smith in #2 doubles.  Tyler Massie lost 6-3, 7-5 in #2 singles; and Steven Delaney/Josh Copeland lost an even closer match 7-6, 7-6   a two tiebreaker match in #1 doubles play.  The Pirates host North Harrison tonight after the parade in a huge Mid-Southern Conference showdown at 6:30 pm.  Come support the tennis team after enjoying this evenings Homecoming Parade.

Pirate Tennis Upends Brownstown

Charlestown Pirate Tennis hosted conference rival Brownstown Monday evening and improving their record to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in MSC play with a 3-2 win over the visiting Braves.  Pirate results:  #1 singles  Miles Matthews won the #1 singles match 6-3, 6-3; Trey Woodward won #3 singles 6-2, 6-1; and the in #2 Doubles, Austin Smith and Zack Whitten won 6-3, 7-5.  Tyler Massie lost a close match (4-6,  6-2,  & 6-2) in #2 singles; and Josh Copeland/Steven Delaney lost another close match in #1 Doubles 5-7, 5-7.  “This was a great team win over a quality top MSC oppenent…..(We’re) continuing to play well” commented Charlestown Head Coach Scott Matthews.

Pirate Tennis Takes Down Borden

The Charlestown Pirate Tennis team, continuing to improve in the second season under Coach Matthews, took down Borden on Tuesday night in a match played at Borden. Miles Matthews fell at one singles, 4-6, 4-6, but the Pirates took the matches at two singles and three singles, as Tyler Massie (two singles) won 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) and Trey Woodward (three singles) won 6-1, 6-2. The Pirates took both doubles matches by default. The Pirates won four matches to one, and advance to 4-2 on the season. “Even though Borden only has three players, they are a tough out. Singles played very well. Great job tonight,” commented Scott Matthews. The Pirates (4-2 overall; 0-2 MSC) will be back in action against conference foe Austin next Tuesday at our courts starting at 5:00pm.
