Softball Clinic This Wednesday at CHS

The Charlestown High School Softball program and the City of Charlestown – Youth & Family Sports will offer a developmental clinic for girls ages 6-14.  This program will be conducted on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Charlestown High School from 12:00 to 3:00, and will focus on age appropriate softball fundamentals in a “camp-like” setting.  The cost is $20, which includes admission to the clinic, admission to the Lady Pirates game that follows the clinic, and dinner during the game.  It is recommended that participants wear appropriate softball attire (softball pants and both cleats and tennis shoes) and have the needed equipment to participate (glove, bat, helmet, etc.). Cash or check is acceptable (checks can be made to: Pirate Pride, softball in memo).  All participants will be invited to stay after the clinic and watch the Lady Pirates Softball Team take on the New Washington Mustangs in their first game of the season!

Pirate Basketball Announces Recent Accolades

Four Pirate Basketball standouts have been recently recognized in Southern Indiana for outstanding accomplishments this past season, both on the court and in the classroom.

Senior Jordon Knoebel, after averaging 22 points per game this past season, has been voted to the MSC All conference Team; and will also be playing in April 2nd annual HBCA All-Star game held at Bloomington North High School.

Senior Miles Matthews was selected statewide to Indiana’s Academic All State Team; while Trey Woodward received Academic All State Honorable Mention honors.

Congratulations also goes out to Isaiah Harris for being recognized All MSC Honorable Mention and to Trey Woodward for Indiana Academic All State Honorable Mention honors.

Outstanding work Pirates, that’s representing Pirate Nation with class!

Woolridge Headed North to Play Tiger Football

WoolridgePirate Football Senior Simon Woolridge recently met with family, coaches and school administrators to accept and sign a letter of intent to attend and play college football at Olivet Nazarene University in northern Illinois next year.  Woolridge played three years of varsity Pirate Football, finishing with 146 career tackles, 83 of which were recorded as solo tackles.  Woolridge additionally finished with six career sacks while also adding an interception and two conversion receptions his senior year of play.  Woolridge plans to pursue a nursing degree at Olivet Nazarene while playing NAIA football.  During the signing, Simon offered advice to younger football players coming up; in that concentrating on strength and conditioning is very important when interested in playing football after high school.  Additionally, Woolridge credited the relationships he built on his team; as well as, family and friends which made the different for him personally when striving to achieve goals.  Joining Simon during his signing, and as shown above left to right are his parents Marty and Susan Woolridge, sister Sienna Woolridge; and Charlestown High School Head Football Coach Jason Hawkins (right rear) and Atheltic Director Chad Gilbert (left rear).

Spring Sports Try-Out Announcement

Anyone interested in trying out for any Charlestown High School Spring Sport must have a completed physical on file with the school Athletic Department.

Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball tryouts will be held on Monday, March 6th; beginning at 5:30 pm at the CHS Softball complex.  Anyone interested needs to report with softball attire, cleats and tennis shoes.  Questions can be directed to Head Coach John Smith at (502)548-3509 or charlestownsoftball@gmail.com.

Any CHS boy interested in playing Charlestown Pirate Golf during the upcoming season should attend a meeting in Coach Tolliver’s room (A224) on Monday, March 6th, during IMPACT.  Please contact Coach Tolliver for more information if needed in advance of Monday’s meeting.

Charlestown Lady Pirate Tennis will begin Monday, March 13th at 3:15 pm (to 5:00 pm), at the Charlestown High School Tennis Courts.  Questions regarding Lady Pirate Tennis can be directed to Head Coach Scott Matthews at smatthew@gccschools.com.

Pirate Baseball Tryouts will be held on Monday, March 13th from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the CHS Baseball facility.  Anyone interested in trying out for the high school baseball team needs to come prepared for inside and/or outside workout on Monday the 13th.  Gray baseball pants, black t-shirt, hat and cleats are needed while outside; while tennis shoes or turf shoes are needed inside as cleats are not allowed inside the hitting facility.  Questions should be directed to Head Coach Ricky Romans at 502-641-2883.

 

Boys Basketball Sectional Schedule Change Announced

Salem High School, host of Boys Basketball Sectional #30, has announced a rescheduling of sectional games due to power utility problems resulting from the recent storms.  The following is the revised game schedule for Sectional #30 at Salem High School:

Thursday, March 2nd – 6:00 pm, Salem vs. Scottsburg (Gm 2); then at approximately 7:30 pm, Silver Creek vs. Corydon (Gm 3).

Friday, March 3rd – NO GAMES.

Saturday, March 4th – Semi-Finals, 6:00 pm, Charlestown vs. Brownstown; then at approximately 7:30 pm, the Winner of Gm 2 vs. Winner of Gm 3.

Monday, March 6th – Sectional Championship Game, tipping off at 7:00 pm.

Boys Basketball Senior Night TONIGHT

The Charlestown HS Boys Basketball team will celebrate Senior Night festivities tonight while concluding the regular season and hosting the Christian Academy Warriors.  The Junior Varsity game will tip at 6:00 pm while the Varsity game will tip at approximately 7:30 pm.

Congratulations to Seniors Trey Crace, Jordon Knoebel, Brendan Lawler, Miles Matthews, Trey Schafer, and Trey Woodward.

Additionally during tonight’s game, look for the CHS National Honor Society selling baked goods as a fund raiser for medical expenses of Senior Katlin Pedro, a NHS member who was hit by a car and critically injured last November.

Boys Basketball Sectional Tickets On Sale

The Charlestown High School Athletic Department will be selling $10.00 all session Boys Basketball Sectional tickets, Monday February 27th through Thursday March 2nd, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm in the CHS Athletic office.

The Pirates play Friday night, March 3rd, at 6:00 pm vs. the winner of Brownstown and North Harrison; at Salem High School.
