Alex Wright to Join Men’s Golf at Hanover College This Fall

Seated: Jennifer Fleece (Alex’s Mother), Alex, and Kevin Wright (Alex’s Father) Standing: Charlestown Golf Coach Adam Tolliver

Recently in the presence of family, friends, and coaches, Charlestown senior Alex Wright signed his celebratory letter of intent to attend school and play golf at Hanover College in the fall.

Wright just completed his senior season for the Pirates, only his second ever, becoming the first golfer under coach Adam Tolliver to advance to the regional in his eleven year tenure and the first in recent history to go on to the collegiate level. Wright earned Mid Southern Conference honors this season as well and was a medalist in matches for Charlestown.

When asked about his choice to play at Hanover College with the Panthers, Wright replied, “I chose Hanover to be my home for the next four years because that is exactly what it feels like to me. I have the wonderful opportunity of being able to continue my golf career at Hanover and hope to do big things with the team and Coach Gulley. The coaching staff that Hanover has and the teammates have already made me feel comfortable and a part of the team. Hanover is also a wonderful school for academics which is extremely important to me. Being able to continue my golf career but also receive a very prestigious degree is an honor and I can’t wait to do great things at Hanover College. Go Panthers.” Wright plans to major in pre-law with a focus on political science and economics at Hanover.

Charlestown golf coach Adam Tolliver commented on Alex saying: “I am beyond excited for Alex to have this chance. Alex has put in an amazing amount of work to improve his game so much over the course of two seasons. There can’t be more than a handful of days over the last two years he didn’t do something golf related. Alex’s work ethic and leadership has elevated the entire team, so I will be sad to see that go, but I know Hanover is getting a good one and am excited to see his continued growth.””

Hanover College competes at the NCAA Division III level in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, including Anderson University, Bluffton University (Ohio), Defiance College (Ohio), Earlham College, Franklin College, Hanover College, Manchester University, Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology & Transylvania University (Ky.) Hanover is home to twenty varsity sports including men’s and women’s basketball,  cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, track and field, men’s baseball, football and swimming, and women’s softball and volleyball.

Nestled in 650 acres of a wooded campus and located on the banks of the scenic Ohio River, Hanover College is a private, liberal arts institution where brains and beauty truly intersect. Their rigorous interdisciplinary academic program with 34 majors attracts the best and the brightest from across the region and beyond.

WPMQ, The Pirate Network congratulates Alex (also a valued member of the WPMQ Sports Broadcasting staff) and wishes him a healthy and prosperous future as a Hanover College Panther.
