Pirates Drop Contest at Madison

The Charlestown Pirate Soccer team traveled to Madison for a non-conference clash with the Cubs.  The Junior Varsity recorded a 5-0 win however the Varsity fell 1-3.  “Tonight was another game where we lost our concentration.  It was very unfortunate that the Pirate’s lost the help of their captain due to a head injury.  Madison was an organized team and put up a difficult match, winning 3-1.  Hopefully the Pirate’s learned some more things tonight and will continue to put forth a good effort.  I have high hopes for our upcoming home game”, summarized Pirate Head Coach Christian Martinez.  Charlestown sole goal came in the second half at the 5 minute mark by Pascual Gonzalez with an assist by Andrew Mattingly.  The night ended with the Pirates taking 22 shots, which 10 were on goal with Madison taking 13 shots, with 7 on goal.  Pirate Goalie Matt Parrella had 4 saves and allowed three.  The Pirates will next host Scottsburg in MSC play.

Open Letter to Pirate Nation from CPPSB

2013FootballCrew600-300x205The Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting project started in 2008 with a mission of giving something back to the players, team, school & community; by highlighting the hard work of our CHS student athletes.  The project was NEVER intended to compete with any of the very sports programs it supported.  That being said, the relationship between the CPPSB football broadcast crew and the HS coaching staff has reached a point that is no longer compatible.  The coaching staff is convinced that CPPSB’s coverage is to “negative”; of which we (the broadcasters) strongly disagree.  For ten years we have promised to keep “it real”, with “it” being the broadcasting product we produce voluntarily.  Hundreds of weekly listeners have voiced approval and a dozen of our sponsors have concurred; most for the majority of our ten years.

Pirate Nation, we love you, we have deeply appreciated your support over the past decade and sincerely apologize for any interruptions; however CPPSB has decided to not broadcast this week’s Clarksville game while we continue to evaluate the compatibility problems eluded to above.

Once all factors have been properly evaluated by CPPSB; including impacts on supporters, arrangements with sponsors, and effects on our student athletes, an announcement will be made on the remainder of the season’s football broadcast schedule.  The coverage of Lady Pirate Volleyball will continue as planned; and will not be affected.

Respectfully,

Lynn “Bud” McQuillen, Brian Keith, Bryan Glover, & Chuck Ledbetter

Lady Pirates Drop Non-Conference Match at Madison

The more the Lady Pirate Volleyball (4-3) competed against the home standing Lady Cubs (5-0) of Madison, the more they successful figured out their offense.  Unfortunately, Varsity Volleyball is the best of the first five sets, so Madison ended up defeating Charlestown 0-3.  The Lady Pirates surged during each of the three sets, leading several times but came up short 17-25, 19-25, and 23-25.  “Madison has a good program with several good hitters and blockers.  We could not get an offense going against them.  We have to get better at mixing up our shots if something isn’t working.  We did have pockets of plays where we played really good defense to keep ourselves in the sets.  I thought we played hard and gave good effort, we just have to stay focused and consistent throughout the match”, commented Charlestown Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.

Senior Kaia Reid led the Lady Pirates in kills with five, while Sophomore Hannah Thibideau added four on the night.  The defense was led by Senior Chrissa Ledbetter, who finished the match with 17 digs.  “We have had a long week with three matches in a row.  We will get some rest and come back ready to play Southwestern on Tuesday”, concluded Coach Nuxoll.

The Charlestown Junior Varsity squad fell to a record of 3-2 after also falling to the Madison JV team 0-2 (12-25, & 7-25).
