Jenna Daniel is Btown Bound as a Hoosier Cheerleader

JennaDanielCharlestown High School Senior Pirate Cheerleader Jenna Daniel is seeing several years of wondering what it would be like to cheer for her favorite college sports team; become her reality.  Senior Jenna Daniel, is headed to Indiana University in Bloomington to continue her education as well as be an IU Cheerleader.  Daniel has cheered competitively and at games for four years; as well as become quit the track standout while at Charlestown High School.  Daniel’s major is currently undecided, but has successfully completed try-outs for the IU Cheer team.  Joining Jenna Daniel (seated center) for her finalized announcement to Pirate Nation are her parents Kim and David Daniel; as well as Charlestown High School Athletic Director Chad Gilbert seated end left and Charlestown High School Head Cheer Coach Mark Sherrill seated end right.  Liz Cross, the Indiana University All-Girl Assistant Coach and Amy Pearce, Charlestown HS Assistant Coach are standing left to right.  Daniel explained that over and above being a long time IU fan; she was attracted to the university’s cheer program partly based on its recent successes at the National Competition levels.  Daniel also offered to up and coming Pirates who want to succeed past high school; that they put in the extra effort daily, focusing on the future and not just what is expected.  Daniel also added that its very cooperative to be a student-athlete whom is coach-able.  Jenna Daniel wishes to thank her family, friends, coaches and God for the support and guidance through her high school career.  Congratulations to Senior Pirate Cheerleader Jenna Daniel, not only for recent achievements toward college, but also for her outstanding representation of Charlestown High School the past four years.

Glover Headed to Bellarmine to Cheer

GloverSigningCharlestown High School Pirate Senior Cheerleader Taylor Glover gathered with family and school administrators Wednesday evening to finalize her announcement to attend Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.  Glover has participated in competition cheer and softball during her entire career at Charlestown High School.  Glover is undecided in her major courses of study at this point, but summarized her interest in Bellarmine based on its location, and existing National level sports programs, including competition cheerleading.  Glover recently received award notification of a substantial academic Bellarmine scholarship, and has already successfully completed the try-out process to become a Bellarmine Knight cheerleader.  Joining Glover during her announcement, and as shown seated on either side of her in above photo are her parents Denise and Bryan Glover.  Seated left end is Charlestown High School Athletic Director Chad Gilbert, and seated at right end is Charlestown HS Head Cheer Coach Mark Sherrill.  Standing left to right behind Glover is her brother Jacob and Charlestown HS Assistant Cheer Coach Amy Pearce.  When asked to give advice to up and coming student athletes, Glover stated that its important not to sell yourself short; rather keep using determination to put in the work to accomplish your goals.  Glover concluded by thanking her parents, coaches, and God for supporting and standing with her.  Pirate Nation congratulates Senior Taylor Glover on her college plans and outstanding representation as a Charlestown Pirate.

BREAKING: Delaney wins Regional 300m Hurdles

StevenDelaneyRegionalChampCharlestown HS Pirate Junior Steven Delaney has won the Bloomington North Boys Track & Field Regional 300 meter Hurdles event (40.03) at Bloomington North HS.  Finishes fourth in the 110 meter Hurdles event (15.05).  Delaney has also finished 5th in the Long Jump event 20-05.00.

Senior Brendan Lawler finishes 6th in the Long Jump event 20-03.75; and finishes 15th in 100m Dash (11.65);

Senior Luke Finchum finishes 11th in the Regional Shot Put 46-09.00 / 44-09, 45-06, 46-09;

Senior Trey Woodward 16th in 100m Dash (11.76); and 12th in the 200m Dash (23.72).

The Pirate 4 x400 Relay of TREY WOODWARD, JOSH MCCOY, DASHAUN MORROW, & STEVEN DELANEY finish 15th in a time of 3:42.69.

Steven Delaney advances to the State Finals, Friday, June 2nd on the Indiana University campus in Bloomington.  The 300 meter Hurdles State Finals are scheduled to begin at 7:20 pm Friday.

$25 Sports Physicals Available May 31st at CHS

Charlestown High School will be hosting pre-participation sports physicals on Wednesday, May 31st from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Charlestown High School Sports Arena.  These sports physicals will be available for all incoming Charlestown High School and Charlestown Middle School student athletes; and at a cost of $25 per athlete, payable in cash or a check made payable to CHS Athletics.  Student-athletes may pick up a physical packet from the Athletic Department or in the CHS cafeteria on Friday, May 26th and Tuesday, May 30th.  Parents do not have to be present on May 31st if ALL PHYSICAL PACKET PAPERWORK is completed in advance; and when arriving with physical paperwork, everyone should enter the high school near the main office entrance.  Sports Physicals will be conducted by our trainers and the doctors from Baptist Health Floyd.  If you have any questions, please contact the CHS Athletic Department at 812-256-3328.

Pirate Golf Second Ahead of Austin and Rock Creek

The Charlestown Pirate Golf team continues to show improvement this season, as Tuesday night they lowered their season best score another 13 strokes by shooting a team score of 191.  The team finished 2nd behind Christian Academy (157),  but ahead of Austin (197) and  Rock Creek (215) at Hidden Creek Golf Course.  Brian Hodges and Matt Carr each carded 44s, Brian Wolter had 48, and Caden Doty finished with a 55 to round out the team scoring.  The team will travel to Madison on Tuesday.  Congratulations to the Pirate Golf team and keep up the great work.

Lady Pirates Track Finishes Successful Year

IMG_5683Charlestown Lady Pirate Track & Field posted a time of 53.02 in Heat #1 of the 4×100 relay during Tuesday’s IHSAA Girls Track & Field Regional Meet at Bloomington North High School.  The relay team consists of Ilayah Keltner, Jenna Daniel, Mackenzie Byrnes, and Carley Conway.  The relay team finished 11th in the event, higher than any other MSC team, however not enough to advance to State.  The old school record, of which the same relay team tied during last week’s Sectional meet, was 53.05; which had stood since 1997.  This relay team will be back next year however, as it graduates only Daniel from its foursome.  Junior Tayte Motsinger finished 12th in 100 meter hurdles (17.38); Freshman Ashley Wright finished 15th in the 400 meter dash (1:04.30); Junior DeAsia King finished 11th in the Discus (97-11.00); and Senior Jenna Daniel finished 12th in the Long Jump (14-07.00) and 12th in the Shot Put (33-02.50).  Charlestown did not produce any State qualifiers from the Regional meet; however completed an extraordinary regular season, broke school records, and constantly delivered personal improvements.  “I am proud of everyone who advanced to Regionals.  It was the best year I had as a coach”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll at the conclusion of the Regional meet.
