McKenna Harbin shot her lowest score as well.  I am so proud of their performances tonight, and the improvement they showed individually and as a team since the last time we played at Turning Point.  We improved our team score by 17 strokes.  Our goal tonight was for each girl to shoot mid 50’s, but I told them mid to high 40’s were possible.  Each of them achieved our team goal. It’s great to finish the season with a win”, summarized a pleased Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll.

Lady Pirates Drop MSC Match to Lady Cats

VolleyballJVThe Lady Pirate Volleyball team (7-4 & 2-3 MSC) traveled to Ramsey, Indiana Thursday evening for an important Mid-Southern Conference clash with the North Harrison Lady Cats.  The night didn’t go as planned as Charlestown fell 1-3 to the hosts, to the tune of 17-25, 29-27, 7-25, and 20-25 in the best of five set match.  “Tonight was a tough conference loss against North Harrison.  We stuck with them in the first set and were tied at 16-16 and then we just completed fell apart and let them pull way.  We started the second set the same way battling back and forth and was able to play tough until the end of the set to win 29-27. Instead of carrying the momentum over from that great win in the second set, we fell apart.  We struggled some with passing and had several hitting errors. The third set may have been our biggest loss of the season so far.  We came out slow in the final set, but was able to make it more of a match”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.  The Charlestown Offense was led by Senior Kaia Reid, who recorded 11 kills; and Sophomore Hannah Thibideau, who added another ten.  Thibideau also had five big blocks in the stat book.  Senior Chrissa Ledbetter led the defense with 15 digs and Senior Hannah Vincent was right behind her with 13 digs.  The Charlestown JV also camp up short at North Harrison in the opener, falling 0-2 (22-25 & 16-25).  “We enter a tournament this weekend with teams we have never played, so we will need to focus on our execution and what we are doing on our side of the court”, summarized Coach Nuxoll.  The Lady Pirates will play in the Crawford County Round Robin Tournament against Springs Valley (9am), Mitchell (10am) and Crawford County (11am) Saturday at Crawford County High School.  Crawford County is on Eastern Time, same as Charlestown.

Even in the first set that we won 25-13 we just weren’t as sharp as usual, and we didn’t communicate very well.  In the second set we just traded points with Shawe until Kaia Reid went on a nine point serving run.  The third set we started down 0-5 and couldn’t overcome the gap. The fourth set was better and we were able to win 25-15 to finish the match.  We were able to play the entire roster tonight and everyone was able to contribute”, summarized Lady Pirate Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.  The Charlestown offense was led tonight by Kiersten James, who finished the game with 11 kills while Maddie Nuxoll contributed 27 assists.  Chrissa Ledbetter and Maddie Nuxoll each had 11 digs to lead the defensive effort.  “We will have to have better focus in our conference match against North Harrison tomorrow night”, concluded Coach Nuxoll.  The Lady Pirate Junior Varsity squad improved their record to 4-4 while sweeping Shawe 2-0 (25-14, 25-10).  Charlestown at North Harrison Thursday night will be broadcasted lived by Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting beginning at approxiately 7:00 pm at www.CPPSB.com.

Lady Pirate Soccer Picks Up BIG MSC Win

The Charlestown Lady Pirates Soccer team (2-1 & 1-0 MSC) clashed with their Mid-Southern Conference rivals from Corydon Wednesday evening; playing a hard fought match that continued down to the final seconds.  Neither team was able to score in the first half, but both had many attempts.  Charlestown marked 7 shots on goal, while Corydon had 13.  Senior Tayte Motsinger put away the two goals for Charlestown in the second half; one with 26 minutes remaining and the second with 12 minutes remaining.  Motsinger alone had 9 of the team’s 11 total shots on goal.  The Panthers’ goal came with 6 minutes left in the game by Abi Miller; while totally 20 shots on goal.  Brenley Berger, keeper for Charlestown, made 17 saves to keep her team in the game.   The game ended 2-1 and the Lady Pirates finishing with their first Mid-Southern Conference win of the season.  “I’m proud of the way these girls continue to push even when they have nothing left to give.  We have a small team and with injuries through out the game it would be easy to give up, but our players work hard for the entire time they’re out on the field and I cannot ask for anything more than that.  I’m seeing improvements on things we have worked on in practices and as we continue to make strides in the right direction, a winning score at the end of the game is only part of the victory”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Kelsey Rogers.  Charlestown is back in action on Thursday at Jeffersonville.
