Happy Homecoming Week, Parade Thursday, Game Friday

Indiana’s longest running high school football Homecoming Parade will be held Thursday, September 21st beginning at 5:00 pm from the south parking lot of the Charlestown High School. The parade route will include traveling south on Monroe from the high school, then west on Main Street before stopping on the city square for a pep rally. Additionally and traditionally, the Pirate Football parents will be selling rib eye sandwiches up on the square from 5:00-6:00 pm during the pep rally festivities like in years past. Pirate Football will host MSC football new comer Scottsburg Friday night in the Bone Yard with a 7:00 pm kick-off and annual Homecoming ceremony taking place during halftime of the game. Pirates Top Lanesville Eagle Soccer 7-3

BoysSoccerActionLville2017Charlestown Pirate Soccer evened their season record at 5-5 Tuesday evening after hosting the Lanesville Eagles and posting a 7-3 win.  “Today was a good win against Lanesville.  The Pirates did much better in the field.  Yes, there were a few slip-ups that cost us some goals, but my boys had a better attitude than last night.  They were more focused and played with skill. We have another home game on Thursday, so the Pirates need to rest tomorrow.  I love the effort I saw today, but we have several players dealing with minor injuries and they need time to recuperate”, summarized Pirate Head Coach Christian Martinez.  First half scoring for the Pirates included a goal by Sergio Bolanos with assist by Demetrio Ortuno; Bryson Andasol solo goal; another Sergio Bolanos goal with assist by Demetrio Ortuno; Eric Sipes with assist by Sergio Bolanos; and another solo goal by Bryson Andasol.  During the second half, the Pirates got two goals by Andrew Mattingly; both assisted by Bryson Andasol.  Pirate Goalie Matt Parrela had 6 saves and 3 allowed.  Charlestown took 20 shots, 13 on goal; while Lanesville logged 15 shots with 9 on goal.

The Pirates are next in action vs. North Harrison, in the CHS Bone Yard, as part of a huge MSC clash double header with the boys varsity playing first with then the girls varsity following.

Lady Pirate Volleyball Sweeps Past Visiting Austin

volleyballjamesThe Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball team improved to 14-8 & 4-4 MSC Monday evening after sweeping visiting Austin three sets to nil.  Charlestown won 25-14, 25-8, and 25-14; as the Lady Pirates started and ended strong in a three set win over conference opponent Austin.  “I was very pleased with our focus and control throughout the entire match.  We were without one of our starters, but Sam Crace and Korea Tutt did an outstanding job of stepping up.  All of our main hitters, Kaia Reid, Hannah Thibideau, Kiersten James, and Kayleigh Smith did a great job of making smart shots and finding ways to score. Maddie Nuxoll did a nice job of mixing up the sets and Hannah Vincent, Chrissa Ledbetter and Sidney Goedeker did a terrific job with passing and defense. Lady Pirates Battle Heat in Crawford County

The Charlestown High School Lady Pirate Cross Country team finished 4th out of 22 complete teams this past Saturday at Crawford County.  “A couple of the ladies struggled with the heat, but still had an impressive team finish on a tough course”, commented Head coach Jerry Doyle.  Top 15 in each grade level received medals; including Freshman Skyler Cochran in 15th, Sophomores Carley Conway in 8th, and Ashley Wight in 14th place.  Senior Katie Rhodes finished in 7th place for Charlestown.  For the boys, Sophomore Josh McCoy finished 8th in his grade level; and Freshman Camden Latham turned an ankle early in the race and had to drop out, so the boys were incomplete.  Freshman Alex Settles ran a personal record in a time of 21:35.

Volleyball Doubles Up on Kills, Tops Salem

volleyball-Ledbetter2The Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball team (11-6 & 3-4 MSC) continued a busy week, playing for the third consecutive night in advance of Saturday’s Borden Invitational.  Thursday evening the Lady Pirates earned an important conference victory by dispatching  visiting Salem 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, & 25-23).  “Overall, I was pleased with our performance tonight against our conference opponent.  We played very well in the first two sets and played in control.  Our offense played strong, despite Salem’s good defense, and continued to wear them down”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.  During the second set, Sophomore Hannah Thibideau had a good serving run with 9 service points and Senior Kaia Reid had a ten point service run in the third set.  Charlestown allowed Salem to come back in the third set, but hung on to finish the match.  Senior Kaia Reid had a great night offensively with 15 kills; and was named the Coyle Chevy, Buick, GMC and Coyle Nissan Player of the Game by Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting.  Senior Maddie Nuxoll contributed 28 assists and Senior Chrissa Ledbetter led the defense with 14 digs.  “I hope we can carry this momentum into our tournament this weekend at Borden”, concluded Coach Nuxoll.  The CHS Junior Varisty squad evened their record at 6-6 by dropping their contest against Salem 0-2 (17-25, & 17-25).  Follow CPPSB on Twitter for set by set updates on Lady Pirate play in Saturday’s Borden Invitational, a tourney Charlestown returns as the defending Champions.

 

Pirate Tennis Sweeps Corydon 5-0

Charlestown HS Pirate Tennis improved to 9-3 & 4-2 MSC Thursday evening after hosting conference rival Corydon and shutting them out 5-0.  Steven Delaney won #1 singles, Jacob Doherty won #2 singles, and Alec Sipes won #3 singles.  Chase Wray and Aaron Meyer  won #1 doubles and Jacob Roberts and Isaac Bates won #2 doubles.  The Pirates are back in action Monday afternoon hosting MSC rival Brownstown (4-3).
