Charlestown Primary Care has once again agreed to provide low cost Sports Physicals to Pirate Nation Athletes in preparation for the up-coming 2015-16 school year.  These Sports Physicals are for any Charlestown High School or Charlestown Middle School students (including incoming 6th graders) who are planning on trying out for or participating in any school sport for the upcoming school year.

All Sport Physicals will be performed at Charlestown High School, on the evening of Monday, June 8th, between the hours of 6 and 7 pm.  Each sports physical will be $20 cash (no exceptions), and each student must arrive with a completed IHSAA Physical Form, including parent and student signatures where required.  CLICK HERE to download and print the CHS Athlete Packet, including the correct IHSAA Physical Form.

All Sports Physicals will be performed by doctors and nurses of Charlestown Primary Care, with all proceeds being donated back to the school athletic department.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association, in a March 31st Press Release, announced the new classifications for member schools in several sports for the next two school years.  The enrollment figures, the total of boys and girls in grades 9‐12, were submitted by the schools to the Indiana Department of Education last fall and are used to determine the classifications in the sports of baseball, boys and girls basketball, football, boys and girls soccer, softball and volleyball.  These class changes will be effective for next school year (2015-16) and the following school year (2016-17).

No changes in class alignment were announced for any Mid-Southern Conference, as Silver Creek will remain 4A, Charlestown, Corydon, North Harrison, Scottsburg, Brownstown and Salem remain 3A, and Clarksville, Austin, and Eastern(Pekin) remain 2A.

A couple Pirate and Lady Pirate Sectional foes will change in a few sports, as Mitchell will drop from 3A to 2A in Baseball, Basketball, Softball and Football.  The Mitchell Bluejackets have been a Football Sectional 31 opponent of the Pirates for the past four years; creating an opening for realignment.  Due to their post season tournament success factor, Providence will move from 2A to 3A and likely join the same Sectional the Lady Pirates play.

According to school enrollment figures, the press release also indicated that Charlestown’s enrollment increased to 735, making it the 16th largest 3A school in the state; and the largest 3A school in the Mid-Southern Conference.  The remaining MSC 3A enrollments numbers include Corydon-717 (21st); North Harrison-660 (33rd); Brownstown-571 (56th); and Salem-558 (58th).

Charlestown’s Anytime Fitness, located at 1107 Market Street, has announced the return of their Advanced Athletic Training Camps.  The camps are scheduled to cater to high school athletes during the up-coming two week spring break (intersession period).  There are two 1-week opportunities tentatively scheduled for: March 23-27, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and March 30—April 3, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Athletes will receive instruction for proper & safe lifting technique, enhanced conditioning, strength, and speed & agility.  The camps also include daily workouts, nutrition support,  individualized progression plan, and post-clinic homework. Saturday:  Lady Pirate Cross Country Runners Whitney Andrews and Katie Rhodes will run in the Cross Country Semi-State meet, in Brown County, at 12:30 pm.  The CHS Marching Band of Pirates will compete in the ISSMA Scholastic State Finals in Indianapolis.  The 6th Annual Pirate Baseball Alumni Game will begin at 3:00 pm with registration beginning at 2pm at the CHS Pirate Baseball Complex, more information available at www.PiratePride.BLUE/Baseball.  Lady Pirate Volleyball will conclude hosting their Class 3A Volleyball Sectionals in the CHS Sports Arena, North Harrison v. Madison at 11am and Corydon v. Silver Creek at 12:30 pm with the Championship Game at 7:00 pm Saturday.
