Pioneer Tennis Too Much for Pirates

The Pirate Tennis team traveled to Providence tonight and played tough against a strong sectional contender, but came up short at #1 singles and both #1 and #2 doubles for a 3-2 match.  Seniors Jacob Doherty and Alec Sipes both came away with wins at #2 and #3 singles respectively. Jacob won his sets 6-2, 6-0 while Alec won 6-3, 6-4. The Pirates are back in action at home on Thursday against Corydon.

Pirate Tennis Dominates Clarksville

Charlestown HS Pirate Tennis improved to 8-2 and 3-2 MSC Monday after hosting MSC rival Clarksville and coming within one game of blanking the Generals.  Steven Delaney won #1 Singles 6-0, 6-0; Jacob Doherty won #2 Singles 6-0, 6-1; and Alec Sipes won #3 Singles 6-0, 6-0.  Both Doubles teams won by forfeit.  The Pirates are back in action Tuesday at Providence and Thursday at home versus MSC rival Corydon.

Pirate Soccer Defeats Salem 3-1 in MSC Play

PirateSoccerVSalem2017The Pirate Soccer team improved to 3-4 and 1-2- in MSC play Thursday evening after hosting conference rival Salem and capturing a 3-1 win.  “The Pirates concentrated and played a lot better on the field.  They used their bodies to get possession of the ball, which led us to victory.  We still have some work to do when it comes to keeping our focus, but the boys will have the weekend to rest before getting back to it”, summarized Pirate Head Coach Christian Martinez.  Charlestown’s first goal took place at the 11th minute in the first half when Bryce Wray assisted Andrew Mattingly.  Anthony Carey brought the score to 2-1 before halftime and in the 34th minute with the assist going to Andrew Mattingly.  In the second half, Pirate Bryson Andasol at the 20 minute mark scored on a penalty kick and sealed the win for Charlestown with a 3-1 victory over Salem.  Matt Parrella had 3 saves and allowed only one.  Charlestown finished with 15 shots, 7 on goal; while Salem recorded 8 shots, and 4 on goal.  Charlestown will travel to Austin next Tuesday for more conference competition.

Pirate Tennis Sweeps Eastern in MSC Play

Charlestown Pirate Tennis improved to 7-2 and 2-2 in MSC play after sweeping the visiting Eastern Musketeers 5-0 Thursday night.  Charlestown was led by very strong singles play as Steven Delaney won #1 singles 6-2, 6-0, Jacob Doherty swept #2 singles 6-0, 6-0, and Alec Sipes won #3 singles play 6-1, 6-0.  Charlestown’s #1 Doubles of Aaron Meyer and Jacob Roberts also played well winning in straight sets while #2 Doubles won by forfeit.  The Pirates will host Brownstown (2-3 in MSC play) on Monday.

Lady Pirates Top CAI and Eastern on the Links

LadyPirateGolf20173The Charlestown Lady Pirate Golf team ended their regular season on a very high note, defeating Christian Academy of Indiana 217 to 218, while continuing to improve every week.  Eastern High School participated but did not post a team score.  The winning Charlestown Lady Pirates were led by Lizzie Hill’s 46, while McKenna Harbin shot a 56, Kylan Burke a 57, and Andrea McCoy a 58.  Christian Academy’s Trinidy Snider was the outing medalist with a 39.  “I am so proud of these girls tonight.  Lizzie Hill posted her lowest score this season, she played very well. McKenna Harbin shot her lowest score as well.  I am so proud of their performances tonight, and the improvement they showed individually and as a team since the last time we played at Turning Point.  We improved our team score by 17 strokes.  Our goal tonight was for each girl to shoot mid 50’s, but I told them mid to high 40’s were possible.  Each of them achieved our team goal. It’s great to finish the season with a win”, summarized a pleased Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll.

Lady Pirates Drop MSC Match to Lady Cats

VolleyballJVThe Lady Pirate Volleyball team (7-4 & 2-3 MSC) traveled to Ramsey, Indiana Thursday evening for an important Mid-Southern Conference clash with the North Harrison Lady Cats.  The night didn’t go as planned as Charlestown fell 1-3 to the hosts, to the tune of 17-25, 29-27, 7-25, and 20-25 in the best of five set match.  “Tonight was a tough conference loss against North Harrison.  We stuck with them in the first set and were tied at 16-16 and then we just completed fell apart and let them pull way.  We started the second set the same way battling back and forth and was able to play tough until the end of the set to win 29-27. Instead of carrying the momentum over from that great win in the second set, we fell apart.  We struggled some with passing and had several hitting errors. The third set may have been our biggest loss of the season so far.  We came out slow in the final set, but was able to make it more of a match”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.  The Charlestown Offense was led by Senior Kaia Reid, who recorded 11 kills; and Sophomore Hannah Thibideau, who added another ten.  Thibideau also had five big blocks in the stat book.  Senior Chrissa Ledbetter led the defense with 15 digs and Senior Hannah Vincent was right behind her with 13 digs.  The Charlestown JV also camp up short at North Harrison in the opener, falling 0-2 (22-25 & 16-25).  “We enter a tournament this weekend with teams we have never played, so we will need to focus on our execution and what we are doing on our side of the court”, summarized Coach Nuxoll.  The Lady Pirates will play in the Crawford County Round Robin Tournament against Springs Valley (9am), Mitchell (10am) and Crawford County (11am) Saturday at Crawford County High School.  Crawford County is on Eastern Time, same as Charlestown.

CPPSB is LIVE from North Harrison Thursday & Friday

Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting will be live from North Harrison TONIGHT (Thursday) covering the big conference clash between Lady Pirate Volleyball (7-3 & 2-2 MSC) and the Lady Cats (6-7 & 1-1 MSC).  Air time is scheduled to begin at approximately 7:00 pm.  Jeremy Vincent, Frank Nuxoll and Chuck Ledbetter will have the call.

Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting will also be live from North Harrison (3-0) Friday night, continuing coverage of Pirate Football (1-2) beginning at 6:30 pm.  Bud McQuillen, Brian Keith, Bryan Glover, Adam Tolliver and Chuck Ledbetter will have the call once again
