Lady Pirates Beat Eastern & Fern Creek to Win Providence Invite

SoftballProvidenceInv2015The Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball team (2-1) won their third straight Providence Invitational Saturday by defeating Eastern Louisville 5-4 and Fern Creek 6-1.

The Lady Pirates first faced off against Eastern (Louisville) in the second game of the Providence Invitational, the first saw host Providence fall to Fern Creek (Louisville).  After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Pirates took a 3-0 lead before Eastern took a one run lead during the top of the seventh inning.  Charlestown rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs off RBI’s by Sherrill and Willinger, to win 5-4 and advance to the final.  Carley Price got the win from the circle for Charlestown.

The Lady Pirates scored all six of their runs in the top of the second inning, answering one run the Tigers scored in the first.  Lady Priate Sophomore Pitcher Kendall Cline and a strong Charlestown defense held Fern Creek to three and out innings the remainder of the game to secure the 6-1 win.  “I’m very proud of how the ladies played today….a solid performance for early in the season” commented Head Coach Kevin Zollman at the conclusion of the day.

The Lady Pirates are scheduled to host rival Silver Creek Monday and North Harrison on Tuesday, both beginning at 5:00 pm.
