Volleyball Falls to Corydon in Season Opener

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball team dropped their season opener Tuesday night to Corydon Central (1-1 overall; 1-0 MSC). Corydon Central defeated Charlestown 24-26, 19-25, and 22-25. The Lady Pirates battled throughout the entire match, and showed much improvement throughout. “I am disappointed with our loss tonight. We had Corydon down 19-24 in the first set and couldn’t finish. We allowed them to serve eight points and couldn’t put a ball away. We cannot let that happen. We have to continue to earn points and not rely on other teams to make mistakes. When we got down, we tended to play a little tentative instead of being aggressive. Emalee Craven led the team with six kills and four aces. We will come back and work hard tomorrow to prepare for Jeff on Thursday,” commented Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll following the loss. The Lady Pirates match vs. Corydon Central was the first ever volleyball match broadcasted on Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting, and can be found on the archived broadcasts on www.cppsb.com. The Lady Pirates (0-1 overall; 0-1 MSC) will be back in action on Thursday night, hosting Jeffersonville (0-0 overall; 0-0 Hoosier Hills), with JV beginning at 6:00pm.

Lady Pirate Golf Finishes Third at Westwood

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Golf team competed in their first match of the season Monday night at Westwood Golf Course in Scottsburg, Indiana. Jeffersonville finished second, scoring 247, and Charlestown finished third, scoring 273. “The girls did their best, considering four of the CHS golfers had never played golf and one CHS golfer had one year of experience. The new golfers were nervous never competing in a golf match, but realize how difficult the game of golf can be. I hope to see improvement during the season with each of them,” commented CHS Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll. The Lady Pirates will be back in action tonight, Thursday, August 13th against Clarksville at their home course, Elk Run Golf Course. The match begins at 4:00pm.
