Track & Field Finish Very Successful Regular Seasons

The Charlestown Pirate and Lady Pirate Track & Field teams hosted a three-way meet with Rock Creek and Southwestern Tuesday night at Dutch Reis Field.  Charlestown swept first place in both boys and girls competition.  For the Lady Pirates, it was a milestone season, as they finished first in all of their regular season meets….which may very well be a first.  Charlestown girls won with a total score of 82, better than Rock Creek’s 38 and Southwestern’s 18.  First place girls finishes included:  Jenna Daniel Shot put, long jump, 4×100 Relay; DeAsia King Discus; Tayte Motsinger 100 and 300 Hurdles; Katie Rhodes 1600M, 4×800 Relay; Ashley Wight 400M, 4×400 Relay; Clare Mitchell 3200M, 4×800 Relay; Molly Brauneker 4×800 Relay, 4×400 Relay; Alexis Gurr 4×800 Relay, 4×400 Relay; Carley Conway 4×100 Relay, 4×400 Relay; Ilayah Keltner 4×100 Relay; and Mackenzie Byrnes 4×100 Relay.

“Senior Jenna Daniel finished her last home meet with personal bests in Shot put (increasing her throw 2′), and long jump.  She had a great night.  We had several girls improve their times/throws as well.  I feel we are ready for Conference and Sectional coming up in next 2 weeks”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Kim Carroll.

The Pirates scored 69 points to win boys competition, better than Southwestern’s 43 and Rock Creek’s 22.  The Pirates were led by the following first place finishes Tuesday evening:  Luke Fincum-Shot; Brenden Lawler-Long Jump; Bo Braunecker-Discus; Steven Delaney-300 and 110 Hurdles; Trey Woodward-100 Dash and 200 Dash; 4X1 Relay of Woodward, Lawler, Dickens and Wurtsmith; and the 4X4 Relay of Steven Delaney, Logan Gurr, Drashaun Morrow and Trey Woodward.

“It was good to finally get to run against competition again, as the North Harrison Invite was cancelled on Friday due to the weather.  With Conference and Sectionals coming up the next two weeks, we really needed the work”, commented Pirate Head Coach Jerry Doyle.

Next: MSC Conference, Tuesday, May 9th (girls) and Thursday, May 11th (boys).
