Charlestown High School’s Samantha Matthews ended a fantastic career last Tuesday evening when the Lady Pirates fell in a hard fought battle to Brownstown Central in their first game of the IHSAA girls’ basketball sectional. Samantha scored twenty points in the game to give her a grand total of 1,417 points from 2015-2019, placing her 3rd on the Lady Pirates all time scoring list behind Abby Conklin with 2,616 (1993) and Kaitlynn Henning with 1,528 (2015).

Samantha is the daughter of Charlestown head coach Scott Matthews (New Washington ’89) and Paige Barrett, the granddaughter of Jim Matthews (long time New Washington coach), and the great granddaughter of Emmett Lowery (Arsenal Tech–1929 Gimbel Medal Award/Purdue University).

Best wishes to Samantha as she continues her education and basketball career next year at the University of Tampa.
