Lady Pirates Top Southwestern 3-1

In another first victory in over five years, the Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball team improved to 5-3 on the season Tuesday evening by defeating the Rebels for the first time in at least the last six season 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 15-25, and 25-18).  “I’m super proud of how my team worked together and supported each other in the match tonight.  Southwestern is another program we have not been able to beat in at least five years so this is a good win for us.  We took a while to warm up in the first set and found ourselves down 14-21.  After our second timeout we finally started to inch our way back into the set and ended up winning it 26-24.  The second set had good rallies and defensive plays and we were able to pull it out 25-22.  The third set we let down and allowed Southwestern to dictate was was happening on the court and they took the win 15-25.  We had a several point lead in the fourth set, but allowed them to close the gap.  We were able to hang on in the end to win the set 25-18 and the match. My primary passers, Chrissa Ledbetter, Hannah Vincent, Molly Braunecker and Sidney Goedecker did an outstanding job tonight getting the ball to the setter, and they also made some great defensive plays”, summarized Charlestown Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.  Chrissa Ledbetter led the defense with 31 digs; while Hannah Thibideau led the offense with 9 kills and 6 service aces.  The Junior Varsity squad fell to Southwestern 1-2 (25-22, 22-25, and 9-15) after a strong start; just couldn’t find the offense needed to maintain.
