Lady Pirates Outlast New Washington 3-2

The Charlestown HS Lady Pirate Volleyball team improved to 3-2 on their young season Tuesday evening, when defeating visiting New Washington three sets to two.  The Lady Pirates had to battle the Lady Mustangs, about as much as the team battles injuries this season.  Charlestown squeezed set one 25-23, then fell 23-25 in straight sets, before winning the fourth 25-19 and the tie breaker 15-9.  “Our matches against New Washington are always good ones because they always have scrappy teams that make it difficult to put a ball away.  They had a few tough servers who gave us trouble during serve receive.  We had them down by several points in the third set, but they inched their way back to beat us.  Not allowing a team to come back when we have a lead, is something we will continue to work on.  Despite our lapses in focus, we were able to pull it together in the end to come up with a win.  We were without one of starting middles due to an ankle injury and our two JV middles, Hannah Thibideau and Adia Wells, did a nice job filling in”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.  Kaia Reid led the offense tonight with 16 kills while Amelia McCoy added eleven.  Maddie Nuxoll had a big night with 32 assists, 15 digs and 2 service aces.  Chrissa Ledbetter led the defense with 29 digs.  “I’m glad we were able to pull out the win tonight, but we will have to be more focused and disciplined if we want to beat Henryville tomorrow night”, concluded Coach Nuxoll.

The Lady Pirate JV team also recorded a victory, moving their record to 2-2, by defeating New Washington 25-20, & 25-19.
