FREE Home Game Admission to CHS Students with ID

Effectively immediately, and through February 29th, any Charlestown High School Student, showing their valid CHS Student ID, will be admitted free of charge to any Charlestown High School Regular Season Athletic game; courtesy of the Charlestown Pirate Pride Booster Club.  All CHS Students will need to do is sign in at the admission gate, again using their student identification card; and all in the quest of increasing support of our Pirate and Lady Pirate Athletes.

Lady Pirates Win 7th Straight on the Road at Brownstown

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team made the morning trip to conference rival Brownstown’s home court Saturday, with hopes of continuing to improve and surprise opponents.  The young Lady Pirates (9-7 & 1-5 MSC) have now won seven straight after starting the season 2-7; and over veteran competition in Providence, Floyd Central and Silver Creek.  Brownstown (10-9 & 3-5) led early Saturday, however Charlestown begun to take control as they led 23-16 at the mid-way point.  Charlestown used a 12-2 run to start the third period, before cruising to a 61-40 MSC victory over the Lady Braves.  Charlestown was led in scoring by Samantha Matthews who finished the game with 18 points and eight rebounds.  Lexi Logsdon added 16 points and three assists; as fellow Senior Bethany Hall finished with 9 points and five rebounds.  Bri Harvey finished with 6 points and nine rebounds.  Brownstown’s 13-9 series lead over the last fifteen years, makes the win another sign of the significant improvement the Lady Pirates have achieved thus far this season, in preparation of finishing strong and being a competitive threat in the sectional.  “A great team effort for all four quarters”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Michael Prichard.  The Lady Pirates will be on the road next Tuesday at Eastern, who is currently 12-4; prove Charlestown another opportunity to show their improvement.  For more information about Lady Pirate Basketball, log on to www.PiratePride.BLUE/GirlsBasketball.

Pirates Top Pioneers Again, Advance to Holiday Final

The Charlestown Pirate Basketball team matched up against the Providence Pioneers for the second time in as many outings, this time in the first round of the Silver Creek Holiday Tourney Tuesday evening.  The Pirates (5-2) not only accomplished winning their fifth straight; but also beating the task of beating the same team twice in one season, dispatching the Pioneers (5-3) 40-32.  Charlestown jumped out to a quick 11-5 lead; however questionable foul calls put the Pirates, especially Senior Jamal Long, in early foul trouble.  Both teams played to a sixteen all tie at the halftime break; then used rebounding advantages to hang on for the victory.  “I thought that our defensive rebounding was the key…we played with great effort!”, commented Pirate Head Coach Jason Connell after the game.  Charlestown will face Silver Creek (9-0), who defeated Clarksville in game one Tuesday evening, in the 55th Annual Silver Creek Boys Holiday Tourney final Wednesday evening at approximately 7:30 pm.  Korey Harris led the Pirates with 17 points, as Jamal Long added 14, and Jordan Knoebel four.  Listen to the archived game broadcast at www.CPPSB.com; and listen to Wednesday’s Holiday Tourney Final between the Pirates and Dragons Wednesday night beginning at 7:15 pm on www.CPPSB.com.

Pirates See Pioneers Again, in Tonight’s Holiday Tourney

The 55th Annual Silver Creek Holiday Tourney will tip off tonight (Tuesday) at Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg.  The tourney schedule includes Silver Creek (8-0) and Clarksville (2-5) matching up in tonight’s first game at 6:00 pm; with Charlestown (4-2) and Providence (5-2) tipping off in the second game at approximately 7:30 pm.  The Charlestown – Providence game will be broadcasted live by Pirate Pride Sports beginning at approximately 7:15 pm at www.CPPSB.com.  The last outing for both the Pirates and Pioneers was a December 19th regular season contest; Charlestown surprised host Providence 54-28, courtesy of a well executed 2-3 zone.  Silver Creek has won 23 Holiday Tourney Titles, Providence 13, Charlestown 10 and Clarksville 8.  Silver Creek is the defending Tourney Champions with a 58-40 win over Charlestown in 2014.  The two winning team from tonight’s first round games will meet in Wednesday’s 2015 Championship Game, at Silver Creek High School.  The Championship Game will tip at approximately 7:30 pm, following the 6:00 pm Consolation game tip.  Follow Holiday Tourney score updates by following CPPSB on Twitter.

Lady Pirates Win Third Straight Holiday Tourney

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team exacted a bit of revenge on Silver Creek (5-11) and won their third straight Girls Basketball Holiday Tourney crown by defeating the Lady Dragons 34-30 Wednesday evening.  During the forty years of the Tourney’s existence, Charlestown has now won 18 Holiday Tourney Titles and Silver Creek 14.  The Lady Pirates began their season 0-4, before winning seven of their last ten.  Charlestown (7-7) led Creek the majority of the second half, despite having turnover and free throw troubles.  The Lady Pirates fell to Creek 43-36 in their regular season match up on November 18th.  The Lady Pirates were led in scoring Wednesday by Bri Harvey, finishing with 15 points; Lexi Logsdon added 12 points, and Samantha Matthews five.  Harvey and Erin Kimbrell were named to the All-Tourney Team while Logsdon was named the Tournament MVP.  Bri Harvey was also named Wednesday night’s Coyle Chevy, Buick, GMC, & Coyle Nissan Player of the Game.  Providence defeated Clarksville in Wednesday’s Tourney Consolation Game, 61-23.

Lady Pirates Upset #8 Providence in Holiday Tourney

The Charlestown Lady Pirates won their fourth straight while hosting Class 2A #8 Providence (7-4) in the first round of the Girls Basketball Holiday Tourney.  Charlestown (6-7) held Providence to just four points in the final period, then surge to a 37-28 victory.  The Lady Pirates will face Silver Creek in Wednesday evening’s Holiday Tourney Championship game in the CHS Sports Arena (7:30 pm).  Silver Creek defeated Clarksville in Tuesday evening’s tourney opener.  Charlestown was led in scoring by Lexi Logsdon and Bri Harvey, who both finished the game with 13 points apiece.  Samantha Matthews added six points for the victorious Lady Pirates.  Senior Bethany Hall was named the Coyle Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Coyle Nissan Player of the Game for grabbing seven huge rebounds for the Lady Pirates.  Listen to Wednesday night’s Holiday Tourney Championship Game (Charlestown v. Harris & Long Lead Pirate Rout of #7 Providence

The Pirate Basketball team traveled to Class 2A #7 Providence Pioneers Saturday evening for a regular season match-up; in advance of meeting the Pioneers a second straight time December 29th in the Silver Creek Holiday Tourney.  Charlestown (4-2) trailed the hosts 11-8 at the end of the first period; but then began to vapor lock the Pioneers with their two-three zone to a 21-15 halftime lead.  The Charlestown zone kept Providence at bay the remainder of the game; as Pirates Korey Harris and Jamal Long poured on the offense to rout Providence (5-2) for the early season upset.  Harris finished the game with 18 points, including four baskets from beyond the arc.  Jamal Long added 17 points as the Pirates outscored the Pioneers 19-4 in the third stanza and 14-9 in the final period.  Tanner Wesp finished with ten points as the Pirates routed the home standing Pioneers 58-28.  The next outing for both team is a 7:30 pm meeting in the Silver Creek Holiday Tournament on Tuesday, December 29th.  Merry Christmas Pirate Nation!
