Lady Pirates Finish Regular Season with Win

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball team ended their regular season, 19 wins and 5 losses, with a win over the Brown County Lady Eagles on the road Friday evening.
The Lady Pirates did all their damage in the first inning with junior Mackenzie Smith doubling to right center field to lead off the game.  Senior Leah Sherrill then laced a single down the right field line moving Smith to third.  A errant throw back to first, to catch Sherrill off the bag, allowed Smith to score and Sherrill to advance to third.  Sherrill then scored on an RBI ground out from senior Lexi Logsdon.  Charlestown defeated Brown County 2-0.
Junior Kendall Cline controlled everything on the mound for the Lady Pirates.  Cline gave up only one hit, a infield single in the seventh inning, walked two and struck out 4 in the complete game shut out.  Sophomore Taylor Glover collected the only other hits by the Lady Pirates going 2-3 on the night.
The Lady Pirates will now focus on Class 3A Sectional #30 play at Corydon next week.  Charlestown will begin their sectional play against Scottsburg, a team they basically squeaked past 8-7 back on April 14th.  First pitch against the Warriorettes is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24th at approximately 7:30 pm.  If you absolutely can’t make it to the game, you can listen to full coverage of Lady Pirate Softball Sectional play by Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting at or using their free CPPSB mobile app for your phone or tablet.
