Lady Pirates Advance to Holiday Tourney Final

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team (9-3) advanced to the Championship game of the Charlestown Holiday Tournament Wednesday evening by dispatching Clarksville 92-34.  Thursday evening’s championship game will mark the 24th time the hosts have advanced to the tourney final; and will face the 2016 defending tourney champs from Providence at 7:30 pm.  Providence (6-5) outlasted Silver Creek 50-42 in the second first round game at Charlestown Wednesday evening.  Clarksville (4-13) and Silver Creek (5-10) will meet in Thursday evening’s consolation game of the Charlestown Holiday Tourney at 6:30 pm in the CHS Sports Arena.  The Charlestown Varsity Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament, is the oldest girl’s tournament in the state with the same four teams; of which Charlestown has won 18 times, Silver Creek 14 times, Clarksville 5 times and Providence 4 times.

The Lady Pirates outscored Clarksville 47-16 Wednesday evening in the first half and finished the game with five players in double figure scoring while advancing to the championship game for the seventh straight year.  Scoring leaders for Charlestown included Samantha Matthews (22 points), Jackie Biscardi (21 points), Bri Harvey (16 points), Gabby Gagnon (12 points), and Peyton Crace (10 points).
