Lady Pirate Soccer Falls to Southwestern 4-2

In their home opener Tuesday evening, the Charlestown Lady Pirate Soccer team lost a hard fought match against the Southwestern Rebels.  The Rebels started the game strong and scored 2 goals in the first half. Both goals were scored by Kayla Adkins. The Pirates could not reciprocate and the score remained 2 to 0 at half time.  The Pirates came out quick at the start of the second half as senior, Ilayah Keltner, put one away within less than a minute.

Junior, Jessaca Rawson, scored a second goal, off of a corner kick from Tayte Motsinger, for Charlestown with about 20 minutes remaining in the game.  The score remained tied until 10 minutes were left when the Rebels were able to score 2 more in just 5 minutes. The two second half goals for Southwestern came from Kayla Adkins and Emma Foley.

Charlestown outshot Southwestern 15 to 8 but were unable to finish and the game ended 4-2.  “We have to keep our heads up and put this game behind us. We have 2 more games this week and 3 again next week so we don’t have room in our schedule to dwell on this loss. I’m proud of the way these girls came back after being down at halftime. We just need to finish on our opportunities by the goal and not have let downs on our end. It was a hard game and loss at home but we played really well even if the score board didn’t show it. Our next game is against Jeff on Wednesday and I’m looking forward to the match up”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Kelsey Rogers.
