Lady Pirate Softball Draws Scottsburg to Begin Sectional Play

Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball will play Scottsburg in the opening round of Sectional #30 play, hosted at Corydon High School.  The Lady Pirates will face off with Scottsburg in Tuesday’s (May 24th) second game at approximately 7:30 pm; but following the Salem- and Corydon Central contest to complete the lower half of the play off bracket. The upper half of the Class 3A Sectional #30 match-ups include Brownstown versus North Harrison (Monday night) with the winner facing Silver Creek, who received the bye, in Wednesday’s first semi-final game.  The winners of Salem-Corydon and Charlestown-Scottsburg will meet in Wednesday’s second semi-final contest; with the championship game scheduled for Thursday night, May 26th, at 6:00 pm.  All Sectional #30 games will be played at Corydon Central High School; and all Charlestown Softball Sectional games are scheduled to be broadcasted live by Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting at www.CPPSB.com or using the free CPPSB mobile app.

Lady Pirate Softball Stays Perfect in MSC at Salem

Two runs was all it took Wednesday evening as the Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball team disappointed home standing Salem’s (6-2 MSC) attempt to stay in the hunt of this year’s MSC Softball Conference race.  Neither team recorded an error, Charlestown (14-4 & 7-0 MSC) earned their two runs off six hits while 3A #13 Salem was held scoreless with five hits.  Scoreless after five complete, the Lady Pirates scored a run each of the sixth and seventh innings when Bethany Hall singled to score Mackenzie Smith and Brooke Adams added a solo home run.  Carly Price pitched the complete shut out win, striking out three and walking two.  With two conference games remaining, at Eastern (1-7 MSC) Thursday, and at North Harrison (6-1 MSC) next Tuesday; Charlestown can clinch at least a share of defending their 2015 Mid-Southern Conference softball title with a win in Pekin.  North Harrison’s sole conference loss to date was at the hands of Silver Creek.

Lady Pirate Softball Throttles Brownstown with 16 Hits

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball team won their sixth straight Thursday evening and remained undefeated in conference play (6-0) by hitting arch-rival Brownstown straight out of town.  No one stranded here!  The Lady Pirates (11-3) scored 15 runs on 16 hits while committing just one error, while Brownstown (3-3 MSC) scored five runs on eight hits.  Charlestown scored two runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third to take a commanding 9-5 lead after three complete.  The Lady Pirates added six more runs late in the game enroute to a 15-5 final score.  Carly Price (10-3) got the win from the circle and was one of three Lady Pirates (Leah Sherrill and Lexi Logsdon) who booked triples from the plate.  Sherrill finished 3-of-5 at the plate and batted in three Charlestown runs, while Bethany Hall went 2-fo-4, including a double and three more RBI’s.  Charlestown travels to Edgewood High School Saturday to defend their 2015 Edgewood Invitational title, meeting Bedford-North Lawrence in the first game of the day around 10:00 am.  Follow CPPSB on Twitter for Lady Pirate Softball updates Saturday.

Pirate Softball Rallies to Beat Clarksville 5-4

CarlyPriceThe Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball team improved to 10-3 on the season; while just as importantly remained undefeated (5-0) in Mid-Southern Conference play by spoiling Clarksville’s visit Tuesday evening.  The Lady Pirates fell behind 2-1 after two complete innings, then scored two in the bottom of the 7th for the 5-4 rally win.  Clarksville scored four runs off seven hits, while Charlestown scored five runs off eleven hits.  Senior Carly Price (9-3) got the win from the circle, striking out eleven General batters, walking one, and allowing only two earned runs in seven innings of pitching.  Price also got the winning RBI in the bottom of the 7th with two away.  Senior Brooke Adams finished the game three for three at the plate, including a triple and three RBI’s; while Junior Kendall Cline finished 2-3 including a double.  The Lady Pirates will travel to New Washington Wednesday evening (5:00 pm) and host Brownstown (3-2 MSC) on Thursday with a first pitch time revised for 6:00 pm at Charlestown High School.

Lady Pirate Softball Rips Austin 16-0

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball team scored early and often while hosting MSC foe Austin Thursday evening.  Charlestown got some timely hitting taking advantage of some Austin pitching wows.  The Lady Pirates improved their record to 7-3 (4-0 MSC) by dispatching the Lady Eagles 16-0 with Carly Price in the circle, allowing one hit, striking out seven and walking none.  Lexi Logsdon finished the game 2-2 at the plate including five RBI’s, a double, a triple, while scoring three times.  Sarah Willinger added another double, while batting in four runs.  Morgan Eldridge carded 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs, MacKenzie Smith went 2-2 at bat and scored four times.  Charlestown will travel to West Washington on Friday and Madison on Monday.

Sherrill and Lady Pirates Take Down Creek 6-3

SherrillsoftballThe Mid-Southern Conference Softball race, although early in the season, is just that, a race.  Coming into Tuesday’s game at Silver Creek, Charlestown… along with North Harrison, Salem, and Silver Creek were sharing an undefeated conference start, with Brownstown one game back and in the mix.  The Lady Pirates, along with the rest of the Mid-Southern Conference Softball programs; know that every single conference game is critical.  Tuesday evening, the Charlestown Lady Pirates did what they had to do; beat arch-rival Silver Creek and keep themselves in a position to vie for defending their 2015 title.  Scoreless after three complete innings, Charlestown scored one in the fourth and three in the sixth to lead the hosts 4-0 going to the bottom of the sixth.  The Dragons got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs heading in to the seventh (4-2); when Senior Leah Sherrill basically put the game away for Charlestown.  Despite  Creek showing signs of a rally, and Charlestown clinging to a two run lead with two outs; Sherrill smacked her third homer of the season at a perfect time.  Sherrill finished the game 3-for-4 from the plate, including a triple and three RBIs.  Silver Creek was held to one run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 6-3 final score.  Carly Price got the seven inning win from the circle, allowing three runs on just five hits, and striking out five.  Lady Pirate MacKenzie Smith went 2-for-4 and scored three times and Brooke Adams finished 2-for-3.  Charlestown improved their record to 6-3 & 3-0 MSC, while the Dragons fell to 3-1 in MSC play.  The Lady Pirates will be back in action on Thursday, hosting MSC rival Clarksville at 5:00 pm.  Charlestown will host North Harrison May 3rd, host Brownstown on May 5th, and travel to Salem on May 9th.
