Pirate Jamal Long Named All MSC

jamalLong14After averaging sixteen points and seven rebounds per game this past season, Charlestown Pirate Basketball standout Jamal Long was named to the All Mid-Southern Conference list Wednesday.  Jamal, a junior, scored in 21 of Charlestown’s 23 games this past season; scoring more than 20 point six times, including 27 against Floyd Central and 29 at North Harrison.  Jamal finished the season with four double-double games, including 14 rebounds against Floyd Central and 10 versus North Harrison.

Henning Named 1st Team All-State by State Coaches Association

HenningBasketballThe Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association released their 2014-15 All State Teams on Thursday, March 11th; and Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball Senior stand-out Kaitlynn Henning has been named First Team All-State.  Henning is joined by Floyd Central’s Madison Kaiser and Salem’s Alex Davidson in representation of south central Indiana Girls Basketball stars.  Henning, who averaged 19 points per game this past season, scored 1,528 during her basketball career at Charlestown; making her the second all time leading girls basketball scorer in school history.  Henning adds this honor to a long and growing list of recognitions and awards while representing Charlestown in several sports.  Henning will also participate in the HBCA All-Star Game in April.  For a complete list of all three Indiana All-State teams, go to www.ICGSA.org.  Best of luck to Kaitlynn and congratulations on representing Pirate Nation on another statewide level.

Reich and Jones Sign to Play Baseball at Owens College

Charlestown Pirate Baseball Seniors, Ryan Jones (left seated center) and Drew Reich (right seated center) have signed to play NJCAA college baseball next school year for Owens College in Perrysburg, Ohio.  Ryan is joined by his family, including parents JR and Tisha Jones and Drew his family, including patents Andrew Reich and Jennifer Romans.  Both families are joined by Pirate Baseball Assistant Coach Brian Hester and Head Coach Ricky Romans (left to right standing) and Charlestown High School Athletic Director Chad Gilbert (seated left).

Drew has a current high school pitching record of 22 wins and 3 loses, and on a 22 game winning streak with an ERA of 2.50 and 185 strikeouts.  Owens College is currently recruiting Drew for a pitching position on their team.

Ryan currently, going into his senior year as a Pirate, holds a .394 batting average (99-251) just one hit shy of #100; including 17 doubles, 7 triples, 7 home runs, and 66 stolen bases.  Owens College is currently recruiting Ryan as an outfielder prospect.

Pirate Grappler Haynes in Sunday’s Indiana/Illinois All-Star Classic

BryantHaynes2Charlestown HS Pirate Grappler Bryant Haynes has been selected to be a member of Team Indiana in the 2015 Indiana/Illinois All-Star Classic.  The event will be held this Sunday, March 15th at Lawrence North High School, in Indianapolis.  The annual Classic will feature the two best high school Seniors from Indiana in each weight vs the two best from Illinois.  Bryant (43-5) wrestled in the 145 pound weight class this past Senior year, finishing with a Sectional Championship, 2nd place finish at the Regional meet, and 3rd at Semi-State, before losing to the eventual State Champion at last month’s State Finals.  Bryant is the first Pirate Wrestler to every be selected for this honor.  Congratulations Bryant and best of luck at the Classic, you are truly one of the greatest Grapplers in the tradition rich history of Charlestown Pirate Wrestling!

Eli Daniel to Play in North-South All Star Football Game

EliDanielPic2015The Indiana Football Coaches Association has announced the rosters for this year’s annual Indiana High School Football North-South All-Star Football Game; and Senior Pirate Football standout Eli Daniel has been named to the South roster.  Eli becomes only the fifth Pirate Football player to be selected and play in the annual game; joining the likes of his brother Aaron Daniel (2013 All-Star MVP), BJ Steele (1999), Richard Lanham (1990), and Kem Martin (1976).  Eli (in the position of Safety) is the ONLY player from the Clark-Floyd area (in all classes of Indiana Football) to be selected; and will join Madison’s Hunter Sergo (punter), in representing the entire South-Central region of Indiana.  Additionally, Charlestown Pirate Football Assistant Coach Aaron Humphrey has been selected to serve as a South All-Star team Assistant Coach.

Eli finished his Senior season this past year with 62 solo tackles and 498 receiving yards on 27 catches; however he will be forever remembered for his 55 yard break-away run, after a 25 yard catch in the snow and freezing rain, breaking three tackles, to make it possible to upset #2 Brownstown in the Sectional Semi-Final.  VIDEO HERE.  Eli’s Offensive career final statistics include:  46 carries for 297 yds. and four TDs; 39 catches for 729 yds. and four TDs.; 510 kickoff return yards including one 98 yard school record touchdown.  Defensively Eli finished his Charlestown career with 108 solo tackles, 47 Assisted Tackles including 10 for a loss, totaling 155 career tackles; 1 fumble recovery, 3 fumbles forced, 3 interceptions and 6 pass breakups.  Eli also punted the ball 88 times while playing for the Pirates, averaging 32.4 yards per punt.

Lady Pirate Justice Burdin Recognized by HBCA

JusticeBurdinThe Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association has announced the Lady Pirate Basketball Senior Justice Burdin has been selected to play in their annual All-Star Game.  The game will take place on Sunday, April 26th at North Vigo High School, in Terre Haute.  Burdin joins teammate Kaitlynn Henning and Coach Michael Prichard at the All-Star event.  Burdin, who averaged over 13 points and 7 rebounds per game this past season, scored 1,025 points during her basketball career at Charlestown; placing her among only nine girls to score a thousand points while playing basketball at Charlestown High School.  Best of luck to Justice and congratulations on representing Pirate Nation on the statewide level.
