Tate Boley Sets New School Punt Return Record

Congratulations to Tate “T8” Boley! During Charlestown Pirate Football’s 31-30 season opener win over Madison, “T8” received a Madison punt and returned it for a 90 yard Touchdown; setting a New Charlestown High School Football Record for the Longest Punt Return for a Touchdown. The previous record (85 yards TD return) was set in 1986 by Jeff VanMeter, versus Corydon.

JV Pirate Football Thumps Madison 33-0

Charlestown Pirate JV Football traveled to Madison Saturday morning and put a 33-0 thumping on Madison using a “great team effort in every aspect of the game”, commented Assistant Coach David Daniel.  The game marked the team’s season opener, and set well with the coaching staff……”Very proud of all of them”, Coach Daniel added.  The JV Pirate offense was led by Nathan Thomas with touchdown runs of 5, 10, and 55 yards respectfully.  Logan Gurr added a 15 yard touchdown run and another 20 yard TD pass to Brian Wolter.  Thomas was recognized as the team’s offensive player of the game while the JV Pirate defense was led by Kane Blankenship.  Blankenship, recognized as the team’s defensive player of the game, finished the contest with 11 tackles and 3 pass breakups.  Mitch Wurtsmith and Darian Crawford both added an interception apiece for the winning team.   Dalton Bowen converted on three PAT’s and had a touchback on one kickoff.

Rhodes and Shaw Lead Cross Country Pirates in Bulldog

IMG_1817The Charlestown High School Cross Country traveled to New Albany Saturday morning and competed in the annual Bulldog Classic.  The Lady Pirates were led once again by Sophomore Katie Rhodes, who finished 5th overall; as a team the girls finished fourth out of an eight team field, on a beautiful day!  The Pirates were led by Andrew Shaw and finished eighth as a team.  “I’ve seen, over the first two meets, improvement each time, with Sophomore Matt Fellows and Freshman Harrison Adams setting personal records Saturday”, commented Head Coach Jerry Doyle.  Cross Country will will be at the Silver Creek course on Tuesday for one of our favorite meets with the two person team concept Hokum Karem.  “The first runner runs a mile then tags their partner who runs a mile.  Each person does this 3 times for a total of 6 miles per team”, explained Coach Doyle.  For more information about Pirate and Lady Pirate Cross Country, go to www.PiratePride.BLUE/CrossCountry.

Lady Pirates Cooking Up Football Tailgating

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball program will be hosting the Pre-Game Tailgating Grille before every home football game this season.  The Grille will operate from 5pm to 7pm prior to each 2015 Pirate Football home contest, and selling Ribeyes, Angus Burgers, Smoked Sausages, Brats, Chips and Drinks.  Support Lady Pirate Basketball while taking care of your hunger pains just before home Pirate Football games.

Lady Pirate Soccer Drops Season Opener

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Soccer team, led by new head coach Terrance Greer, fell to Jennings County 0-7 in their season opener Thursday night. The Lady Pirates never gave up and competed well against a good Jenning County team. “Great effort by the girls. They never gave up,” commented Head Coach Terrance Greer. The Lady Pirates (0-1 overall; 0-0 MSC) will be back in action next Thursday night, traveling to Southern High School in Louisville.

Lady Pirate Golf Improved Thursday Night

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Golf team competed against Silver Creek, Borden and Eastern on Thursday night in a match played at Hidden Creek Golf Course. Emma Sellers, Grace Sellers, Madison Scnell, and Brianna McCutcheon all improved their scores. Charlestown lowered their team score 15 strokes from Tuesday to Thursday night’s match. “The girls were contacting the ball better yesterday, and are improving their fundamentals each week,” commented Head Coach Kim Carroll. The Lady Pirates will be back in action on August 31st in a match against Providence.
