Pirates Draw Corydon and Host Boys Sectional Next Week

The IHSAA held its annual lottery draw to determine Boys Sectional pairing Sunday evening; as the Charlestown Pirates drew Corydon in Wednesday’s (Mar. 2nd) first game.  Charlestown is also this year’s host of the Class 3A Boys Basketball Sectional #30, in the CHS Sports Arena.  Charlestown (15-6) defeated Corydon (1-20) on the road this past Saturday 75-43.  The remainder of the Sectional #30 pairings include Brownstown (18-3) v. North Harrison (12-7) in Tuesday’s game one, and Silver Creek (17-4) v. Scottsburg (1-20) in Wednesday’s second game.  Salem (15-5) drew the bye and will play the Brownstown-North Harrison winner in the first Semi-Final game Friday March 4th.  The Charlestown-Corydon winner and Silver Creek-Scottsburg winner will play in Friday’s second Semi-Final.  Catch all the Pirate Basketball Sectional action live by Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting on www.CPPSB.com.

Pirates Top Courgars 61-44 in Conference Play

The Pirate Basketball team hosted North Harrison Thursday evening in Mid-Southern Conference play.  The Pirates cruised to a 61-44 victory after leading 30-24, moving to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in MSC play.  Jamal Long led the Pirates in scoring, finishing the game with 16; Tanner Wesp added 13 and Korey Harris 9 respectfully.  “We got off to a slow start by really picked up our defensive effort in the second half”, evaluated Pirate Head Coach Jason Connell.  The Pirates are next in action Tuesday when they host the Austin Eagles 4-12) in MSC play.

Lady Pirates Advance with Win Over Brownstown

In a nip and tuck game all night, the Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team (13-10) surpassed sectional hurdle one Wednesday evening by outlasting Brownstown 47-46 in their post season opener.  Sectional #30, hosted by North Harrison, opened Tuesday evening with Silver Creek advancing past defending sectional champs Salem to set up Friday’s first semi-final game between Creek and Corydon (who drew the bye).  Charlestown, after defeating Brownstown Wednesday evening, will now face host North Harrison in Friday’s 7:30 pm Semi-Final game (North Harrison also beat Scottsburg 47-46 Wednesday evening).  The Lady Pirates and Lady Braves were tied at seven after one quarter of play; before the Braves surged to a 25-20 halftime lead.  Charlestown won the third quarter of play, closing to within one (34-33) after three played.  Charlestown all by sealed the win Wednesday when Frosh Samantha Matthews’ rebound put back with 13 seconds remaining was just enough for the win.  Lexi Logsdon finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds to be named the Coyle Chevy, Buick, GMC & Coyle Nissan Player of the Game by CPPSB.  Bri Harvey added 14 points and seven big rebounds; while Matthews finished with 12 points.  Erin Kimbrell added six points and some timely defense.  “Proud of how tuff and determined we were late in the game”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Michael Prichard.  Pack the stands Friday night Pirate Nation, help bolster the Lady Pirates over a tough North Harrison team in the 7:30 pm Sectional Semi-Final.  If you absolutely can’t make it to the game, you can listen live Friday evening beginning at 7:15 pm on www.CPPSB.com.

Pirate Swimming Finishes 5th at Conference Meet

The Charlestown Pirate Swim Team finished the Mid-Southern Conference Championship meet fifth Thursday evening at Charlestown MS; 42 points ahead of Silver Creek.  Corydon won conference scoring 291 points, followed by North Harrison (262), Salem (151), Scottsburg (118), and Charlestown (90).  Top individual Pirate finishers included Sam Tetrick’s 2nd in the 100 yard backstroke (1:09.41), and 10th in the 50 yard free (28.90); Chase Fellow’s 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley (2:30.81), and 3rd in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.37); and Ryan Haymon’s 8th in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.18).

Charlestown’s 200 yard free relay of Ryan Harmon, Chase Fellows, Mason Sweeney, and Sam Tetick finished 3rd in 1:57.02; and the 200 yard Medley Relay team of Sam Tetrick, Chase Fellows, Ryan Harmon, and Mason Sweeney finished 5th in 2:09.86.

Lady Pirate Basketball Hosts Clarksville TONIGHT (No JV)

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team will conclude their regular season schedule tonight in the CHS Sports Arena hosting the Lady Generals of Clarksville.  Clarksville will not field a Junior Varsity team tonight, so the Varsity only match-up is scheduled to tip at approximately 7:30 pm, right after Senior Night ceremonies, which is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm in the CHS Sports Arena.  Tonight’s game has also been designated as a PINK OUT game in support of Breast Cancer awareness.  Come out and support our two Lady Pirate Seniors, Miss Lexi Logsdon and Miss Bethany Hall, tonight at 7:00 pm; and wear PINK in support of the cause!  If you absolutely can’t make it to the game, Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting will cover it live begining at approximately 7:00 pm on line at www.CPPSB.com or on your mobile device using the FREE CPPSB app.  The Lady Pirates will begin Sectional play next Wednesday at 6:00 pm, when they clash once again with the Brownstown Lady Braves at North Harrison High School.  CPPSB will also cover every second of the Lady Pirate Basketball post season run.

Lady Pirates to Face Off with Brownstown in Sectional

The Charlestown Lady Pirates have drawn Brownstown in Wednesday’s (Feb. 3rd) first game of the Girls Class 3A Sectional #30 at North Harrison.  Charlestown (11-10) defeated Brownstown (12-11) on the road in early this month 61-40.  The remainder of the Sectional #30 pairings include Salem v. Silver Creek in Tuesday’s game one, and North Harrison v. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the recognition for the 2006 Girls Basketball team and our girls elementary school teams has been postponed until Thursday, January 28th.
