Lady Pirate Basketball Announces Open Workouts

The Charlestown Lady Pirates Girls Basketball Team will host Open Facilities and Individual Workouts 3 times per week in the Month of May for students in 7th-12th Grade. They will take place every Monday (except Memorial Day), Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm at Charlestown High School. These workouts will be overseen by at least one of member of the high school coaching staff. Students that are not involved in a spring sport are highly encouraged to attend these sessions.

Henning & Burdin Help Lift East All-Stars to Win

HBCAeastteamWhile most high school girls were sleeping off the all night affects of Prom, Lady Pirates Kaitlynn Henning and Justice Burdin were lacing up the shoes for one more high school game.  Sunday’s annual HBCA (Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association/www.hbcahoops.org) East-West All-Star Classic, at Bloomington North High School; provided the event and venue for one more game before thoughts of college became real.  Henning and Burdin, who recently signed to play Junior College Basketball with tow different schools within the same college conference; got one more chance to play together, and along with Lady Pirate and East All-Star Coach Michael Prichard.  The East All-Star team rallied from a 36-30 halftime deficit to beat their West All-Star counterparts 90-84 in overtime.  Kaitlynn Henning finished the game with 12 points and Justice Burdin 3 respectively.  Game MVP went to Floyd Central’s Madison Kaiser, who finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds.  For more coverage of both the girls and boys HBCA All-Star Classic, go to Justin Sokeland’s article at www.thehhcsports.com.

Henning Headed to Wabash Valley to Play Ball

HenningSigningCharlestown Lady Pirate Basketball Senior stand-out Kaitlynn Henning; recently gathered with her family and school officials from Charlestown High School and Wasbash Valley College to sign a letter of intent and offer to play women’s basketball at Wabash Valley College.  During the signing, Kaitlynn (center) was joined by her family; Matt, Matt, Jr. and Dora Henning; as well as (standing left to right) Charlestown HS Athletic Director Chad Gilbert, Charlestown Lady Pirate Head Coach Michael Prichard, Wabash Valley Womens Basketball Assistant Coach Kira Carter and Head Coach Zach Loll.  “I really like the program and especially Coach Loll, its just a top notch program that I’m excited to be apart of”, commented Henning on the opportunity.  Henning averaged 19 points per game this past season, and scored a total of 1,528 career points at Charlestown; making her the current second all time leading girls basketball scorer in school history.  Henning has accumulated many honors while playing Lady Pirate Basketball, including most recently being named 2015 First Team All-State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.  Henning has also been named Mid-Southern Conference Girls Basketball All-Conference and will play in the 2015 HBCA All-Star Game this weekend.  When asked about what attracted his program to Henning, Coach Loll commented “She’s a high character kid with good grades and a high basketball IQ.  She has the ability to do many things….from working the point to attacking the basket”.  Lady Pirate Coach Prichard voiced how proud he is about Henning moving on to play ball at the next level.  “Kaitlynn has good speed for the level she going to; and one thing is guaranteed, she will be dedicated to finding a way to make anything she is expected to do on the court happen, she is great at that.”  Henning will play National Junior College Athletic Association women’s basketball in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.  A sub plot to Kaitlynn’s signing is that Wabash Valley and Lincoln Trail both play in the same conference; so at least twice a season, she will play against long time team mate Justice Burdin, who signed to play for Lincoln Trail earlier this week.  Pirate Nation congratulates Kaitlynn Henning and wishes her the best of luck playing women’s basketball at the college level next season.  For more information about Wabash Valley Athletics, log on to www.wvcwarriorathletics.com.

Lady Pirate Justice Burdin Signs with Lincoln Trail College

BurdinSigningCharlestown Lady Pirate Senior Basketball stand out made a decision and Tuesday signed a letter of intent and offer to play basketball at Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Illinois.  During the signing, Justice was joined by parents James Burdin, Brandi Burdin and David Ridenour; as well as, Lincoln Trail Womens Basketball Head Coach Scott Sparks and Assistant Coach Jennifer DesJean.  Showing their support for Justice, Lady Pirate Head Coach Michael Prichard and Charlestown Athletic Director Chad Gilbert.  Justice, during her basketball career at Charlestown, averaged over eleven points, over two assists, and nine rebounds per game; finishing with 1,025 career points, named All-MSC Conference, and named a Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association All-Star earlier this year.  Justice stated that she is very excited to continue playing basketball at the next level.  “I know its gonna be allot of hard work, but I’m up for the challenge,” she concluded.  Justice will play National Junior College Athletic Association basketball in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.  “She’s (Justice) got a big upside with her size, talent and physical play.  We’re looking forward to her playing for us”, commented Lincoln Trail Head Coach Scott Sparks.  Lady Pirate Coach Michael Prichard spoke of how proud he is of Justice, and how emotional it is to see another player move on to the next level…”its like they’re your own (kids), I’m excited and anxious with her.”  Pirate Nation congratulates Lady Pirate Justice Burdin, and wishes her the view best while representing the Charlestown community in college sports.  More information about the Lincoln Trail Women’s Basketball program can be found at www.ltcathletics.com.

Henning Named 1st Team All-State by State Coaches Association

HenningBasketballThe Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association released their 2014-15 All State Teams on Thursday, March 11th; and Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball Senior stand-out Kaitlynn Henning has been named First Team All-State.  Henning is joined by Floyd Central’s Madison Kaiser and Salem’s Alex Davidson in representation of south central Indiana Girls Basketball stars.  Henning, who averaged 19 points per game this past season, scored 1,528 during her basketball career at Charlestown; making her the second all time leading girls basketball scorer in school history.  Henning adds this honor to a long and growing list of recognitions and awards while representing Charlestown in several sports.  Henning will also participate in the HBCA All-Star Game in April.  For a complete list of all three Indiana All-State teams, go to www.ICGSA.org.  Best of luck to Kaitlynn and congratulations on representing Pirate Nation on another statewide level.

Lady Pirate Justice Burdin Recognized by HBCA

JusticeBurdinThe Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association has announced the Lady Pirate Basketball Senior Justice Burdin has been selected to play in their annual All-Star Game.  The game will take place on Sunday, April 26th at North Vigo High School, in Terre Haute.  Burdin joins teammate Kaitlynn Henning and Coach Michael Prichard at the All-Star event.  Burdin, who averaged over 13 points and 7 rebounds per game this past season, scored 1,025 points during her basketball career at Charlestown; placing her among only nine girls to score a thousand points while playing basketball at Charlestown High School.  Best of luck to Justice and congratulations on representing Pirate Nation on the statewide level.

Coach Prichard Honored as HBCA District Coach of the Year

CoachPrichardCharlestown Lady Pirate Basketball Head Coach Michael Prichard, 34-13 after two seasons at the helm of the program, has been selected the District 4 Coach of the Year by the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association.  Coach Prichard has been selected by his coaching peers as one of four district coaches honored statewide this year.  Coach Prichard will now have the opportunity to coach in the 2015 All-Start Classic game, which will be held in April at Terre Haute’s North Vigo High School.  Coach Prichard is a 1997 CHS Alum, and very involved in the development and progression of basketball at all levels in the community of Charlestown.  Congratulations to Coach Prichard, the honor is well deserved and in outstanding representation of Pirate Nation.
