Big Slate of Events for Friday Night Pirate Football

BoneYardPirate fans, don’t miss a minute of Friday’s slate of events in conjunction with the big MSC match-up against the Silver Creek Dragons in the BONE YARD.  Charlestown leads the young series with Creek five game to nil.  The Pirates are averaging nearly nine yards of total offense per play and have amassed a total of 2,388 yards in just four games.  Combined with the fact that the Defense is now flying all over the field, hitting hard, and stacking up numbers; the Pirates have been impressive to watch.  In addition to the football clash, the CHS Athletic Department will be recognizing and honoring the 1996 Sectional Champion Pirate Football team between the first and second quarters.  CatchingMalone

Pirate Football Weekend News & Notes

Charlestown Pirate Football opened their regular season on the road at Madison last Friday evening.  The game also marked the end of a 34 year series with the Cubs, which Charlestown dominated to a 21-13 advantage.  Next season, Scottsburg is added to the Mid-Southern Conference varsity football.  The Pirates muddled through a sloppy first half Friday evening enroute to a 16-13 halftime lead; after a first quarter 28 yard touchdown pass from Brendan Lawler to Garrett Woods, and a second quarter 1 yard touchdown rush by Antonyo Gaddie.  The Pirates held the halftime lead, despite six first half fumbles lost.  The second half looked much more like classic Pirate Football; as they reeled off 38 unanswered points to end the series with the Cubs with an exclamation point.  Lawler provided the first second half score, scampering 45 yards through the Cubs defense to pay dirt; the play was later named the Papa Johns Delivery of the Game by CPPSB.  Gaddie another touchdown from 23 yard out, and Anthony Malone ran in scores from five and six yards respectively before Coach Hawkins called off the heat.  The Pirate varsity reserves couldn’t be stopped either, freshmen Braiden Murphy, Addison Logsdon, and Quinton Overton marched the ball 75 yards in 11 plays before Murphy scored from the Madison ten yard line.  The Pirates prevailed to a final score of 54-13.

Junior Varsity Pirate Football clashed with Madison Saturday morning, demolishing their Cub counterparts to the tune of a 48-0 final score.  Addison Logsdon scored a 55 yard touchdown run; Braiden Murphy connected with Isaiah Harris twice for two 40 yard touchdown receptions; Murphy added another 8 yard TD run; while Andrew Snider, Kain Blakenship, and Quinton Overton also scored on rushing touchdowns for the Pirates.  “Great job to both offensive and defensive lines, Great job to the defense for the shutout, including two Sweeney two interceptions and one Snider interception”, commented Coach Hawkins.

The Pirates will host Brownstown Friday evening; as football school recordbook holders will be honored at halftime, and WHAS 11TV’s HS Gametime will broadcast live from the game.
