Volleyball Falls to Eastern in Conference Play
Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball (9-6 & 2-4 MSC) hosted Eastern (11-6 & 4-2 MSC) in Mid-Southern Conference play Tuesday evening, in the CHS Sports Arena. The Lady Pirate suffered a setback loss to the Lady Musketeers in a 3-1 decision (25-17, 25-27, 18-25, and 16-25). “Tonight was a disappointing conference loss. We played well in the first set, but could not put the match away in the second. After the second set, we played tenative. I will give Eastern’s defense a lot of credit. They picked up everything and we got frustrated. We have to get better at mixing things up more effectively,” commented Coach Tammy Nuxoll. Charlestown’s offense was led by Senior Kaia Reid with 11 kills. Maddie Nuxoll had 27 assists and 10 digs. The defense was balanced with Chrissa Ledbetter, Molly Braunecker, and Hannah Vincent with 13 digs each. “We have a long week, so we will regroup and be ready to play Lanesville Wednesday”, concluded Coach Nuxoll. The Charlestown Junior Varsity squad flexed it’s muscle against Eastern, dominating their visiting counterparts, 2-0 (25-9, 25-7). Charlestown is at Lanesville Wednesday, and hosting Salem Thursday.
