Pirates Top Pioneers Again, Advance to Holiday Final
The Charlestown Pirate Basketball team matched up against the Providence Pioneers for the second time in as many outings, this time in the first round of the Silver Creek Holiday Tourney Tuesday evening. The Pirates (5-2) not only accomplished winning their fifth straight; but also beating the task of beating the same team twice in one season, dispatching the Pioneers (5-3) 40-32. Charlestown jumped out to a quick 11-5 lead; however questionable foul calls put the Pirates, especially Senior Jamal Long, in early foul trouble. Both teams played to a sixteen all tie at the halftime break; then used rebounding advantages to hang on for the victory. “I thought that our defensive rebounding was the key…we played with great effort!”, commented Pirate Head Coach Jason Connell after the game. Charlestown will face Silver Creek (9-0), who defeated Clarksville in game one Tuesday evening, in the 55th Annual Silver Creek Boys Holiday Tourney final Wednesday evening at approximately 7:30 pm. Korey Harris led the Pirates with 17 points, as Jamal Long added 14, and Jordan Knoebel four.
