Pirates Drop Conference Opener to Creek

The Charlestown Pirate Basketball team (0-2 overall; 0-1 MSC) opened their conference season with a road test against the #6 ranked Silver Creek Dragons on Tuesday night. The Pirates played well, and fought hard, but dropped the conference opener by the final score of 61-45. The Pirates trailed the Dragons by three points at the end of the first quarter, and were down 32-24 at the break. The Pirates fought hard to get the game closer during the third quarter, but the fourth quarter rally by the Dragons was too much for the Pirates. Silver Creek (2-0 overall; 1-0 MSC) were led in scoring by Ryan Baker (25), Christian Reed (12) and Cam Stephens (8). The Pirates were led in scoring by Jamal Long (13), Korey Harris (10) and Shaun Mansfield (8). The Pirates will be back in action on Friday night, as they attempt to even up their conference record against the Scottsburg Warriors. That game will be apart of another Boy-Girl Doubleheader, with the Girls Varsity playing at 6:00pm and the Boys Varsity playing at 7:30pm, both at home.
