Pirate Soccer Wins Opener 6-4 Over the Jags

Charlestown High School Pirate Soccer hosted the River City Jaguars on Wednesday evening in a boys soccer contest.  The final score found the Pirates on top of the Jaguars 6-4; after a tied halftime score of 3-3.  Senior striker Colin Martin lead the Pirates (1-0) with a brace of two goals in the second half.  Senior Holding Midfielder Jared Rutkowski found the back of the net in the first half as he caught the Jaguars keeper off his line with a heads up volley shot from 35 yards out.  Senior Holding Midfielder Josh Wray also found the back of the goal in a scramble inside the 6 yard box where it seems everyone on the field touched the ball at one point or another off of a broken set piece.  Senior Attacking Midfielder Brayden Cooksey opened all scoring from a corner kick in the 1st half that hooked over and around the opposing keeper to find the back post.  And perhaps the most impressive goal of the night was a break away shot from Junior Attacking Midfielder Trent Wight, directly from the second half restart.  Wight would finish the game with 3 assists and 1 goal, Senior team captain grabbed the assist to Trent as the two switched positions out of halftime to mix things up to great effect.  Freshman Striker Jeremiah Paiz also got on the record with his late game assist to Martin. The Pirates next match is on the road at Henryville, Monday the 25th and then back home again on Tuesday as they host conference powerhouse Corydon Central.
