The Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team made the morning trip to conference rival Brownstown’s home court Saturday, with hopes of continuing to improve and surprise opponents.  The young Lady Pirates (9-7 & 1-5 MSC) have now won seven straight after starting the season 2-7; and over veteran competition in Providence, Floyd Central and Silver Creek.  Brownstown (10-9 & 3-5) led early Saturday, however Charlestown begun to take control as they led 23-16 at the mid-way point.  Charlestown used a 12-2 run to start the third period, before cruising to a 61-40 MSC victory over the Lady Braves.  Charlestown was led in scoring by Samantha Matthews who finished the game with 18 points and eight rebounds.  Lexi Logsdon added 16 points and three assists; as fellow Senior Bethany Hall finished with 9 points and five rebounds.  Bri Harvey finished with 6 points and nine rebounds.  Brownstown’s 13-9 series lead over the last fifteen years, makes the win another sign of the significant improvement the Lady Pirates have achieved thus far this season, in preparation of finishing strong and being a competitive threat in the sectional.  “A great team effort for all four quarters”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Michael Prichard.  The Lady Pirates will be on the road next Tuesday at Eastern, who is currently 12-4; prove Charlestown another opportunity to show their improvement.  For more information about Lady Pirate Basketball, log on to www.PiratePride.BLUE/GirlsBasketball.
