Lady Pirates Tame the Kats on the Road, 49-35

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team concluded Mid-Southern Conference play on the road at North Harrison (14-9 & 4-4 MSC) Tuesday evening; out pacing the Lady Kats from tip to buzzer.  Charlestown got quality play from normal reserves Bri Harvey and Erin Kimbrell, in the absence of injured Senior point Shelby Goedeker.  Harvey scored ten points and logged two steals, while Kimbrell added six points and plenty of defensive disruption.  The Lady Pirates led 21-13 at the half behind eleven Kaitlynn Henning first half points; while holding North Harrison to just five second quarter points.  Charlestown and North Harrison played even to within one point in the third before the Lady Pirates outscored their hosts 19 to 14 in the final stanza.  Henning finished with a game high 16 points and a steal.  Senior Justice Burdin fouled out midway through the fourth, but not before scoring 12 points, blocking four shots, and collecting a steal.  Unofficially, Burdin is four points from joining the Lady Pirate 1000 Point Club.  Lexi Logsdon and Bethany Hall battled foul trouble most of the game, however forced several host turnovers.  The win clinched a sole second place finish in the MSC for the Lady Pirates, one game behind Brownstown.  The win was also the third straight over North Harrison, after eight consecutive loses dating back to 2007.  The Lady Pirates will host Madison this Friday evening for their Senior Night and regular season finale; before meeting Madison again next Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A Sectional at Scottsburg.
