Lady Pirates Have to Get Physical at Scottsburg
The Lady Pirate Basketball team moved to 6-0 & 3-0 MSC Saturday night after beating Scottsburg (2-5 & 2-2 MSC) 58-55 for the third consecutive time, dating back to last season; and only the fourth time in the past ten years. The win was even made even more special as it marked the first time the Lady Pirates had beaten the Warriorettes on their home court since December 1998. Charlestown got off to a quick 12-0 start, partially aided by starting the game with a Scottsburg technical foul for a roster error. The Lady Pirates led 38-29 at the half, but began experiencing foul troubles as Scottsburg attempted to change the momentum with physical play. Charlestown, led by some hot shooting by Lexi Logsdon and Shelby Goedeker, kept a lead throughout the game; however had to rally a couple of times in the fourth quarter when Scottsburg cut their deficit under ten point. Logsdon finished with 13 points and Goedeker 11 respectively. Logsdon and Goedeker were also named co-players of the game by CPPSB, sponsored by Coyle Chevy, Buick, GMC and Coyle Nissan. Kaitlynn Henning was double teamed and assigned a chaser the entire game by the hosts, however still scored 12 points and executed several assists. Justice Burdin added 10 points, while Bethany Hall and Bri Harvey both chipped in six points each. “I’m proud of the girls for fighting when they needed to tonight, and even though the final score doesn’t show it, they continued to find ways of making plays”, commented Coach Michael Prichard.
The Lady Pirates will now host MSC arch rival Silver Creek (2-5 & 2-1 MSC) next Thursday in the CHS Sports Arena.
