Lady Pirate Volleyball Runners Up in Crawford County Tournament

The Lady Pirate volleyball team traveled to Crawford County today for a four team tournament and came away runners up to the host school after beating both Orleans (25-15, 25-15) and Mitchell (25-21, 25-16). Coach Tammy Nuxoll said, “The first two matches of the tournament I thought we played well. Our blocking was good in the first two sets and we had some good serving. [But the Wolfpack] “came out to win in the final match and we couldn’t put a ball down due to their blocking and defense.”  The Lady Pirates fell to Crawford County in two (8-25, 8-25).

Overall, on the day Kayleigh Smith had 11 kills and Kyra Sharp had 10 kills and nine digs. Lanae Crowe contributed 9 aces and Kylie McConnell had 6 aces. Coach Nuxoll credited Abbi East and Kyra Sharp for a nice job of passing.”Although I wish we would have showed up to play against Crawford Co. in the final match, I thought the first two matches were good wins for us,” said Nuxoll.

The Lady Pirates will take Monday to prepare for a very busy week of playing.  They travel to Eastern on Tuesday for a Mid Southern Conference matchup, host Lanesville on Wednesday, hit the road again on Thursday for yet another MSC dual at Salem, and cap off the week in the Borden Invitational on Thursday.  Eastern and Salem sit just behind Charlestown in the MSC standings so our Lady Pirates certainly hope to capture those two road wins this week.
