Lady Pirates Top Corydon 4-3 at Home

Tonight in a hard fought match to the end, the Lady Pirates defeated Corydon 4-3.  Ilayah Keltner opened up the scoring for the Pirates bringing down a loose ball out of the middle and beating the Corydon defense to put it in the back of the net.  Corydon then answered back before the first half ended to tie it at 1-1.

Jessaca Rawson put the Pirates ahead at the beginning of the second half a couple minutes in, assisted by Motsinger.  Corydon fired back minutes later again evening up the score at two. Ilayah Keltner netted the third goal with an assist from Rawson to put the Pirates up 3-2. It was a back and forth battle as Corydon evened the playing field again at 3.

They had a lot of speed up top, that gave our back line some trouble and a run for our money. Their speed and willingness to win 50/50 balls brings up key points for us to work on. Tayte Motsinger broke the tie with three minutes left in the game, taking a shot from 25 yards out into the back of the net to end the game 4-3.

Brenley Berger came up big for us tonight in goal, making 13 saves. She handled 3 or 4 breakaways to keep us in the match as they had plenty of looks to send the score the other direction.

It was a great game and we are very proud of our kids. Corydon has speed and tenacity and really challenged our kids. We have a quick turn around as we host Jeffersonville’s JV at home at 6:30pm.

Lady Pirate Soccer Takes Down Southern 8-0

The Charlestown Lady Pirate soccer team (1-1 overall; 0-0 MSC) hosted Southern High School from Louisville on Thursday night at Charlestown Middle School. The Lady Pirates played well, and took down Southern 8-0 on the hot, muggy evening. Assists were recorded by Cheyenne Hawk, Illayah Keltner, Tayte Motsinger (3) and Machayla Hawkins. In total, the Pirates outshot Southern 18-2, holding them to the shutout. Southern fought hard until the end, with a young team and a small roster. “We saw a lot of improvement tonight from our first game last week. The kids implemented a lot of what we taught them in practice and executed it well. It was exciting to watch the girls work hard and with each other to achieve their first win in a few seasons,” commented a very proud Head Coach Chelsea Grover, picking up her first win as the new Lady Pirate Head Coach. “There were also lessons to learn from this game, to continue to improve throughout the season.” The Lady Pirates (1-1 overall) will open up conference play next Wednesday as they host the Corydon Central Lady Panthers.
