Two Charlestown XC Teams Medal at Hokum Karem

On another hot and very humid evening, the Charlestown Pirate and Lady Pirate Cross Country teams traveled to Sellersburg for the Darryl Kingery Hokum Karem meet.  In the team format ( 2 runners are a team ), the Charlestown team of Whitney Andrews/ Katie Rhodes placed 6th overall and Alysha Flaget/Gabrielle Gagnon placed 10th to earn medals!  On the boys side it was Seth Parker/Skyler Elmore placing 22nd to earn a medal! ( top 25 earn medals ).  One spot out of medal contention was Molly Sumner/Erin Kimbrell in 26th. The Hokum Karem format is a relay where each runner runs a mile, then tags their partner who runs a mile.  Each runner does this 3 times for a total of 6 miles per team.  “I also want to say that I am proud of Bree Ward/Isabella Golja and Matt Fellows/Darian Zeice.  Everyone gave it there best tonight in some very tough conditions!” commented Coach Jerry Doyle.

Lady Pirate XC Finishes 4th at Bulldog Classic

The Charlestown High School Cross Country team participated in the annual Bulldog Classic Saturday morning.  The Lady Pirates team, even without their #1 runner Whitney Andrews (in alignment recovery), finished an outstanding FOURTH place at New Albany’s annual event.  Charlestown was led by Freshman Katie Rhodes, who medaled in 11th place (top 15 received medals).  Just outside of medal contention, Freshman Gabrielle Gagnon finished 16th and Senior Alysha Flaget in17th place.  Rounding out the Charlestown finishers, Erin Kimbrell (24th) and Molly Sumner (31st).  “The ladies ran very well under very hot and humid conditions”, commented a proud Head Coach Jerry Doyle.
The Charlestown boys team, without Sophomore Seth Parker (nursing an injury), fielded an incomplete team; however Sophomore Darian Zeice, Freshman Skyler Elmore, and Freshman Matt Fellows all finished strong for the Pirates.

Rhodes Led Lady Pirates Run Well at Seymour

The Lady Pirate Cross Country team participated in the annual Seymour Invitational Thursday evening.  Freshman Katie Rhodes some recognition was the top finisher for Charlestown, running 12th to win a medal for top 15.  Whitney Andrews was in 6th position before being overcome by heat, 200 meters from the finish.  She was taken by ambulance, doing much better after 3 bags of fluids!  Freshman Gabi Gagnon also performed well under the heat, finishing 22nd and Senior Alysha Flaget 23rd during the outing.  Coach Doyle express being “PROUD” of all the girl runners!
