Anytime Fitness Offers Fall Break Training

Anytime Fitness of Charlestown will be providing two 1-week Advanced Athletic Training Clinics during Fall Break. On October 6-10, sessions will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.; on October 13-17, they are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. (Times are subject to change due to participation. Please call Greg Wilkerson @ 502-689-5904 with questions and/or concerns.)

Athletes will receive instruction for proper and safe lifting techniques, as well as techniques for enhancing their conditioning, strength, speed and agility. The clinics include daily workouts, nutrition support, an individualized progression plan and post-clinic homework. The cost per week is only $99!

Space is limited. For athletes age 13 and up. A copy of the most recent student physical is required. CALL GREG TODAY!

Band of Pirates Win Big at Salem Opener

CHSBandTrophiesOn Saturday, September 13th, 2014, the Charlestown High school Marching Band of Pirates won first place in Class A, Best Visual in Class A, Best Guard in Class A, and Best Music in Class A at the Salem HS Marching Band competition.  The Charlestown Band of Pirates placed higher than competitors from West Washington HS, Southwestern HS, and Corydon Central HS.  The Band of Pirates are under the direction of Danny Peterson and Drum Major Kayla Hooker.  For more information about the Band of Pirates go to www.charlestownbandofpirates.com.

Dr. Melin Listening Session, PP Meeting Monday

SuperMelinGreater Clark County Schools Superintendent Dr. Andrew Melin, will host a Listening Session in the Charlestown High School Media Center (Library); this coming Monday, September 8th, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.  Everyone in the community, especially those with students in the Charlestown area schools, are welcomed and encouraged to attend and get answers to education related questions or topics on their mind.

Pirate Pride will hold their September Business Meeting thirty minutes after Dr. Melin’s Listening Session, beginning at 6:30 pm, also in the CHS Media Center.

Charlestown’s Adam Hoff Name Athlete of the Year

The Charlestown High School Athletic Department is proud to announce that 2014 graduate Adam Hoff; has been named the 2014 Republic Bank Male Athlete of the Year by Vype Magazine.  Each year, one boy and onathAdamNov2013e girl are selected from among the Athletes of the Month to be named Athletes of the Year.  These students are each awarded a $1,000 college scholarship.  This year’s winners have not only achieved exceptional success in athletics and academics, but have demonstrated leadership both on and off the playing field and shown personal initiative in community service.

The football, swimming, track & field and wrestling teams have all counted Adam a member during his high school career, and he served as captain for football and wrestling. A four-year football player, Adam was named 2013 Indianapolis Colts/Ivy Tech Scholar Athlete of the Year, received the 2013 Team 110% award and was named to the 2013 All Conference Team. In wrestling, he was the 2011 Conference Champion and Regional Qualifier in the 170 lb. weight class. Adam was a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and Earthwise, a school recycling group. He was vice president of Students Against Destructive Decisions and volunteers for Hosparus and youth football. He enjoys reading, hunting, fishing, archery and target shooting. “He does an excellent job of helping to create an urgency for excellence in everyone he is around,” says Melissa Stewart, his teacher and nominator.

This marks the second consecutive year that a Charlestown High School Athletics has been named Vype Magazine’s Athlete of the Year, as Aaron Daniel was awarded the same honor in 2013.

CHS Season Tickets Now On Sale

The Charlestown HS Athletic Department has announced All-Sport Season Passes (season tickets) are now on-sale daily between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm in the Student Services Center on campus.  Adult All-Sport passes are $70.00 each, Senior Citizen (55 and over) passes are $50.00 each, and Student passes (K-12) are $30.00 each.  Ten event punch-passes will also once again be available for a cost of $35.00.  Punch-passes can be used for any regular season home sporting event, can be rolled over to the next school year, and can be used by anyone.  For more information, call the CHS Athletic Department at 812-256-3328 or email Athletic Director Chad Gilbert at cgilbert@gcs.k12.in.us.

Lucas Oil Stadium Showcase Ticket Info Released

LucasOilStadiumShowcase2014smallThe Charlestown Pirate Football team, as part of the Lucas Oil Stadium Showcase, will play their week two regular season contest versus the Brownstown Braves, on Saturday, August 30th, 2014 in the home of the Indianapolis Colts.  The Lucas Oil Stadium Showcase will feature a four game slate of Indiana High School Football games beginning at noon with Winamac vs. Pioneer, followed by Brownstown vs. Charlestown at 2:40 pm, Plainfield vs. Danville at 5:20 pm, and Indian Creek vs. Greenwood at 8:00 pm.  All four games will be played on Saturday, August 30th; and on the turf of Lucas Oil Stadium, in downtown Indianapolis.  The Charlestown High School Athletic Department will begin selling Charlestown advanced ticket sales on Friday, August 8th in the CHS Student Services Center.  Advance tickets are $11.00 each or $8.00 for kids 12 years and younger.  Youth football player tickets are also $8.00 each and includes field access to form a team tunnel before the game.  Tickets purchased at the stadium on game day will be priced at $15.00 each.  All tickets are good for admission to all four Showcase games outlined above.  Charlestown advance ticket sales will be held Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, August 8th through Thursday, August 28th.  For more information contact Nicole Grayson in the CHS Student Services Center at 812-256-3328 #11141 or ngrayson@gcs.k12.in.us.  This will be a thrilling event for our Pirate Football players, made even more memorable by a big Charlestown community presence.

2nd Annual Back to School Student Athlete Meeting Announced

Charlestown High School Athletic Director Chad Gilbert would like to announce this year’s Back to School Student Athlete Meeting to be held on Tuesday, August 5th, at 6:00 in the CHS Sports Arena.

The Back to School Student Athlete Meeting is for all parents and their student athletes who plan on participating in a CHS sport during this 2014-15 school year.

Coach Gilbert will address the crowd about the upcoming year at 6 o’clock; afterward, each Fall Sport will split up to an area for that sport’s specific parent meeting.

Winter and Spring Sport Coaches will be in attendance as well; and will use the opportunity to get a head start on preparing parents and student athletes on their upcoming seasons.

Pirate Pride executive officers will also be present to update parents and student athletes on booster club news and information.

The CHS Athletic Staff looks forward to seeing All CHS Student Athletes and their Parents at the second annual Back to School Student Athlete Meeting, next Tuesday, August 5th.
