Pirates Defeat Lanesville, Romans Gets Win 199

The Charlestown Pirate Baseball team moved to 17-5 with a 6-1 road victory over Lanesville; while Coach Romans becomes Pirate Baseball’s winningest coach with a record of 199-121.  Austin Smith (6-1) collected the victory from the mound in 5 2/3 innings pitched.  Smith allowed six hits, walked one, allowed only one earned run and struck out five in the win.  Ryan Jones led the Pirates from the plate, finishing 2-3; while scoring two runs and collecting a RBI.  Dewey Cardwell finished 2-4 for at the plate, including a double and two RBI’s.  Lanesville plated a run in the bottom of the first, then the Pirates poured it on in the sixth and seventh innings; scoring two and four runs respectively.  “We did a great job sticking with it tonight after being behind most of the game.  Give credit to Lanesville’s pitcher, he did a nice job keeping us off track early.  As a veteran team though, it was good to see our guys come through with the game on the line,” commented Pirate Head Coach Romans.  The Pirates host New Washington Thursday beginning at 5:30pm.
