The Charlestown High School Lady Pirate Basketball Coaching Staff; along with several of our middle and elementary coaching staffs, high school players and volunteers are hosting a free five (5) week instructional basketball program, FREE to any female student grades K-6th. This program is designed to introduce the fundamentals of basketball specific skills.
SUMMER/FALL SESSION 2014 DATES: Saturday (August 23rd) Saturday and (September 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th) at the Charlestown High School Sports Arena*.
K- 2nd Grade 9:00 AM-10:00 AM (Can drop off at 8:45)
3rd-6th Grade 10:30 AM- 12:00 PM (Can drop off at 10:15)
One of the main goals, with this program, is to teach all of the participants about developing a “sports work-ethic”. Every person that truly wants to become good at a sport or a skill needs to know that the amount of time, practice, energy, and thorough repetition is the key to improvement. We will also focus on sportsmanship, team work, while introducing basketball skills and learning the general rules of the game.
*The CHS Sports Arena is currently where all sessions are planned to take place, however if Football has to move inside on a Saturday morning because of rain, we may have to the move location that day to CMS. It will be announced prior to session.
Parents, Guardians and family are allowed to stay and watch or you can leave and come back; and a waiver of liability form will be required to be signed by parents at the first session.
There will also be a concession stand available for the purchase of Water, Gatorade for players Sodas and some dry snacks for parents if desired.
The Charlestown High School Girls Basketball program is inviting ANY 7th -12th grader that is interested in playing basketball to their pre-season conditioning sessions, at Charlestown High School, starting next Tuesday (Aug. 5th), right after school from 3:30 until 5:00 pm. Charlestown High School Athletic Director Chad Gilbert would like to announce this year’s Back to School Student Athlete Meeting to be held on Tuesday, August 5th, at 6:00 in the CHS Sports Arena.
The Back to School Student Athlete Meeting is for all parents and their student athletes who plan on participating in a CHS sport during this 2014-15 school year.
Coach Gilbert will address the crowd about the upcoming year at 6 o’clock; afterward, each Fall Sport will split up to an area for that sport’s specific parent meeting.
Winter and Spring Sport Coaches will be in attendance as well; and will use the opportunity to get a head start on preparing parents and student athletes on their upcoming seasons.
Pirate Pride executive officers will also be present to update parents and student athletes on booster club news and information.
The CHS Athletic Staff looks forward to seeing All CHS Student Athletes and their Parents at the second annual Back to School Student Athlete Meeting, next Tuesday, August 5th.
Charlestown High School would like to announce 2014 Lady Pirate Volleyball tryouts to be held on August 4th from 3:30-5:30 pm for girls entering CHS grades 9th-12th. Students trying out for the team MUST have a completed current sports physical on file in the CHS Athletic Department to participant in any sport, including tryouts. The Charlestown Little Pirate Youth Football Association (CLPYFA) will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner prior to the Aug 15th home scrimmage versus Floyd Central. Dinner will begin at 5:00 pm and end at 7:00 pm, which is the scheduled start time of the Pirate Football scrimmage hosting Floyd Central. The dinner will be held at the Charlestown Arts & Enrichment Center (A&E), located at 999 Water Street. All Spaghetti Dinners will be $6.00 each with proceeds to benefit Charlestown Little Pirate Football. Pirate Football will hold its annual Blue-White Scrimmage on Friday, August 8th, 2014 beginning at 6:00 pm on Dutch Reis Field. Admission is free and is the first opportunity most of Pirate Nation gets to see organized team workouts, in an inter-squad scrimmage format. The annual Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting Season Preview Show will be filmed immediately following the scrimmage, as in years past.
The Pirates are also scheduled to scrimmage Floyd Central the following Friday night, August 15th, in the Bone Yard in advance of their season opener at Madison on the 22nd.
Mark your calendars, Friday Night Pirate Football begins August 8th, with the annual Blue-White Scrimmage at CHS.
The Charlestown High School Athletic Department and Pirate Pride Booster Club have released tentative Fall Sport Schedules on the new Pirate Pride website, located at www.PiratePride.BLUE. Links to the schedules can be located near the top of each Fall Sport home page, listed under “Fall Sports”. The schedules are again tentative and subject to some changes in advance of the beginning of each sport’s official IHSAA season.
Not that Pirate Nation has or will forget, the week two regular season football MSC rivalry match up with Brownstown will be played in Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium, on Saturday, August 30th, 2014. Kick off is scheduled at 2:30 pm, as part of a special four game day of Indiana High School football in the home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. Additional information for Pirate Nation will soon be announced, however several fans have already made Saturday evening hotel arrangements at the Holiday Inn Express, located across the street from the stadium at 410 E.
