Lady Pirates Drop Contest at Henryville

Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball traveled to Henryville Wednesday evening for a second straight non-conference match-up.  Charlestown fell behind 2 sets to none, 19-25 & 16-25; but then rallied in the third to beat their hosts 25-23 before nearly forcing a fifth but coming up just short, 27-25 in the fourth.  “Tonight we played a good Henryville team that advanced to Semi-State last year and returned 7 seniors.  We struggled early in the first two sets by giving Henryville too many points and when we finally started to play it was a little too late.  The third and fourth set we started playing from the beginning and we were competitive through out the match.  We won some long rallies by playing good defense.  I was proud how the team played in the third and fourth set and did not give up after struggling in the first two,” summarized Lady Pirate Head coach Tammy Nuxoll.  Kaia Reid led the offense with 10 kills and 6 service aces.  Defensively, Chrissa Ledbetter had 19 digs and Maddie Nuxoll had 14 digs.  The varsity team moved to a record of 3-3 while the Junior Varsity improved to 3-2 with a 25-24 & 25-23 win at Henryville.
