Lady Pirate Volleyball Tops Henryville in the Arena
For the first time in over five years, the Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball team earned a Varsity victory Wednesday evening hosting the Henryville Hornets. The Lady Pirates improved to 4-2 by defeating Henryville (3-1) 25-16, 25-22, 14-25, 25-14. “Tonight was a good win for us. It is the first time we have beaten Henryville since I have been coaching at Charlestown. We started off strong in the first set and were able to capitalize on some Henryville errors. Henryville came back stronger and had fewer errors in the second set, but we were able to keep our
lead. We were out hustled in the third set. Henryville made some really great plays on defense and put the ball in strategic positions on our side of the court that we just weren’t focused or prepared for. We got back on track in the fourth set and played hard from the start. We were able to get a good lead and keep it. I was proud of the way we handled the final set”, summarized Charlestown Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll. The Charlestown offense was led by Freshman Kayleigh Smith; who had 10 kills on the night. Senior Maddie Nuxoll
contributed 20 assists and 19 digs. Senior Molly Braunecker led the defense with 20
digs while Senior Chrissa Ledbetter added nineteen digs. “We will have to come
back mentally prepared to play a tough Madison team Thursday” concluded Coach Nuxoll.
The Charlestown Junior Varsity squad had a tougher time with Henryville, losing their first match of the season 0-2 (18-25, 17-25).
