Lady Pirate Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Brownstown

The Charlestown Lady Pirate Volleyball team (2-2 & 2-1 MSC) traveled to Brownstown Central High School Saturday morning for the annual rotating MSC tri-match with Brownstown and Clarksville.  Charlestown faced off with Brownstown first, falling 0-3 (12-25, 12-25, 13-25); before defeating Clarksville 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-16).  Both games were broadcasted and archived by Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting at www.CPPSB.com.  Brownstown defeated Clarksville in the third match 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-6).

“The first match of the day against Brownstown was a tough one”, stated Charlestown Head Coach Tammy Nuxoll.  “I think we are a better team than what the scores show, but Brownstown deserves a lot of credit for their defense.  We had some good solid hits, but their defense picked up everything which really frustrated our hitters”, summarized Coach Nuxoll.  Hannah Thibideau led the Lady Pirates with 4 kills while Kiersten James and Kayleigh Smith each had 3 kills.  Defensively, Hannah Vincent led the team with 10 digs while Chrissa Ledbetter, Sidney Goedeker, and Molly Braunecker each contributed 9 digs.

The Lady Pirates refocused after the Brownstown match; and returned more to early season form against Clarksville.  “We came out strong in the first set and continued that throughout the match.  One of the highlights of the match was our blocking”, commented Coach Nuxoll.  Hannah Thibideau, who was named Coyle Chevy, Buick and Coyle GMC Player of the Game; had 4 block assists, one solo block, and led the team in kills with seven.  Maddie Nuxoll had 6 kills and 21 assists on the offensive side of play.  Chrissa Ledbetter had a good passing game and led the defense with 12 digs.  “Everyone was able to get into the game and contribute to the win.  I am proud of the entire group”, concluded Coach Nuxoll.
