Lady Pirate Softball Advances to BNL Tourney Championship
Charlestown Lady Pirate Softball traveled to Lawrence County Indiana Friday and Saturday to participate with seven other local teams in the Bedford-North Lawrence High School Battle for the Rock Softball Tournament. Charlestown dispatched Mitchell in the tourney opener Friday 8-0; courtesy of Leah Sherrill’s two-run homer in the bottom of the first, and Carly Price’s two-run single to help the Pirates to a 6-0 lead after two innings. Carly Price finished the game with seven strikeouts from the circle. The win set Charlestown up with a 10am Saturday showdown with New Albany, who finished 1-0 in their tourney pool. The Lady Pirates (3-1) earned their third straight shut out against the Lady Bulldogs, with a 3-0 decision. Price pitched the complete shutout, striking out nine New Albany batters and allowing just two hits. Brooke Adams hit a solo home run in the top of the 6th to extend the Pirate lead to 2-0. Bethany Hall finished the game 3 for 4 from the plate, with an RBI. Hall’s RBI scored Lexi Logsdon, after she hit a two out double in the top of the 7th to make it a 3-0 advantage.
The Lady Pirates now advance to Saturday evening’s 7 pm Battle of the Rock Championship game versus host Bedford-North Lawrence, at Bedford-North Lawrence High School. The Stars advanced to the final courtesy of a 7-1 Friday win over Scottsburg, and a 10-8 win over North Harrison Saturday morning.
