Lady Pirates Advance with Win Over Brownstown

In a nip and tuck game all night, the Charlestown Lady Pirate Basketball team (13-10) surpassed sectional hurdle one Wednesday evening by outlasting Brownstown 47-46 in their post season opener.  Sectional #30, hosted by North Harrison, opened Tuesday evening with Silver Creek advancing past defending sectional champs Salem to set up Friday’s first semi-final game between Creek and Corydon (who drew the bye).  Charlestown, after defeating Brownstown Wednesday evening, will now face host North Harrison in Friday’s 7:30 pm Semi-Final game (North Harrison also beat Scottsburg 47-46 Wednesday evening).  The Lady Pirates and Lady Braves were tied at seven after one quarter of play; before the Braves surged to a 25-20 halftime lead.  Charlestown won the third quarter of play, closing to within one (34-33) after three played.  Charlestown all by sealed the win Wednesday when Frosh Samantha Matthews’ rebound put back with 13 seconds remaining was just enough for the win.  Lexi Logsdon finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds to be named the Coyle Chevy, Buick, GMC & Coyle Nissan Player of the Game by CPPSB.  Bri Harvey added 14 points and seven big rebounds; while Matthews finished with 12 points.  Erin Kimbrell added six points and some timely defense.  “Proud of how tuff and determined we were late in the game”, commented Lady Pirate Head Coach Michael Prichard.  Pack the stands Friday night Pirate Nation, help bolster the Lady Pirates over a tough North Harrison team in the 7:30 pm Sectional Semi-Final.  If you absolutely can’t make it to the game, you can listen live Friday evening beginning at 7:15 pm on www.CPPSB.com.
